An Indian woman has been arrested for allegedly abducting her teenage niece, marrying her and sexually exploiting her.
The unnamed woman was arrested in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh.
According to police, the married woman lured her 16-year-old niece into a relationship under the pretext of being able to give her a better life.
Convinced by her aunt’s claims, the pair eloped.
It was reported that the pair disappeared on February 27, 2024.
They had gone shopping in Khargone but did not return.
Relatives soon noticed their disappearance and alerted the authorities.
According to the family, the Indian woman got married to a man sometime in 2023. But a few days after the marriage, she began pursuing an illicit relationship with her niece.
Police eventually received information about their whereabouts and located them in Pithampur’s Dhar district. Both were taken into custody.
The 24-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the marriage and sexual exploitation of her niece.
Things took a turn during questioning when the woman revealed that despite being married to a man, she had a sexual preference for women.
She explained that she and her niece got married at a hotel.
Afterwards, they started living together and the woman admitted that she and her niece had sex on more than one occasion.
She said she sold footwear to earn a living.
Ritesh Yadav, of Barud Police Station, said:
“The victim’s statement was recorded in court during the day.
“The accused married a man from Umarkhali village a year ago. She later had physical relations with the man’s niece.
“The accused has told us she is a lesbian.
“She had taken the victim to Dhamnod and Indore. There she started living with the victim as partners.”
It was also revealed that the suspect had several similar relationships with women before her marriage.
Local police claimed that at least eight to ten such relationships have come to light, painting a disturbing picture of manipulation and abuse.
Meanwhile, the husband was unaware of his wife’s sexual orientation.
The Indian woman remains in custody, having been booked under Section 377 (Unnatural offences) of the Indian Penal Code.
The town of Khargone is reeling from the shock of these revelations, with many residents expressing disbelief and outrage at the aunt’s actions.
