Their £8m wedding took over the five-star Mardan Palace Hotel.
Kamal Singhala Gupta, son of Indian-born South Africa-based millionaire Ajay Gupta, recently got married in an extravagant Indian wedding in Turkey.
The 24-year-old Kamal tied the knot with Palak Jain, two years his junior, in the astonishing coastal setting of Antalya province.
Lasting from April 23 to 26, 2016, their wedding celebrations took over the five-star Mardan Palace Hotel and cost an estimated €10 million (£8 million).
In order to cater for the size of the party, the hotel assigned four sections of its ground for the Guptas.
15 decoration companies and entertainment suppliers from around the world spent 10 days to complete the incredible set up, consisting of a stage above a pool and an elaborate lighting system.
The size of the stage alone would impress their 600 guests flying in from Dubai, South Africa and the UK.
It was built over the biggest hotel swimming pool in Europe and allowed 100 Indian singers, dancers and acrobats deliver world-class entertainment and stunning atmosphere.
The baraat ceremony was a magnificent event in itself, featuring a carriage, fireworks and a spectacular procession that went on for almost an hour and a half, and attracted many onlookers.
An entourage of over 380 people – from tattoo artists to kitchen staff – were hired to ensure the couple and their family were pampered from head to toe throughout the weekend.
Reports suggest more than 100 chefs prepared a mouth-watering feast of traditional Indian food. 86 butlers busied themselves with serving the VIP guests, and 50 photographers were there to capture the unforgettable moments for the couple.
The last Gupta wedding took place in South Africa in May 2013, when Kamal’s cousin Vega Gupta married Indian businessman, Aakash Jahajgarhia.
But they angered local authorities after landing a family plane, boarded with wedding guests, at the Waterkloof Air Force Base in Pretoria.
Aside from concerns over national security, the Guptas were also thought to have taken advantage of their close ties with South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma.
Ajay Gupta, along with his brothers Atul and Rajesh, moved from India to South Africa in 1993. They set up Sahara Computers which is now estimated to enjoy an annual turnover of £14.3m, while branching out to other industries, such as mining, energy and technology.
The Gupta brothers are said to have acquainted with President Zuma and bonded with many powerful politicians in South Africa.
Though the full extent of their wealth is not as well-documented as other tycoons and millionaires from India, the BBC reports that they own four mansions valued at £2.3m and a helicopter pad.
Kamal Singhala Gupta is now part of the family business. According to City Press, the new groom is the director of steel company VR Laser.
