she wanted something more expensive.

An Indian bride called off her wedding because she believed the lehenga sent by the groom’s family was not expensive enough.

The bizarre incident happened in Uttarkhand.

It was reported that the couple got engaged in June 2022 and their marriage was set to take place on November 5, 2022.

Wedding preparations had been made and invitations had been distributed.

The groom’s parents purchased a lehenga for the bride to wear on her wedding day. However, when she received it, she was not happy.

She questioned the outfit’s poor quality but the groom’s family said the lehenga was purchased “exclusively” from a place in Lucknow.

They added that the shop was known for good quality cloth.

But when the bride discovered that the lehenga cost Rs. 10,000 (£100), she lost her temper. The Indian bride stated she wanted something more expensive.

This led to her refusing to wear it.

She also told the groom’s parents that she no longer wanted to get married.

To change her mind, the groom’s father offered to give the bride his bank card so she could buy a lehenga of her choice.

However, the bride refused to change her mind and continued to throw a tantrum.

As the matter escalated, both families approached the police in an attempt to resolve the situation.

Officers from Kotwali Police Station managed to calm the situation down and both families were set to return home.

But the groom’s family explained that they had already sent invitations for the wedding.

The matter intensified again and the heated debate reportedly went on for hours, to no avail.

Despite the police’s involvement, the issue could not be resolved. Officers came to the conclusion that the best thing was to cancel the wedding.

Both families agreed that this was the best decision.

In the presence of two senior police officers, the wedding was officially cancelled.

In India, there have been a number of weddings cancelled for strange reasons.

One instance happened in Uttar Pradesh where a wedding was cancelled because the groom failed a maths test.

The bride was suspicious of the groom’s educational qualifications and on the wedding day, she asked him to recite the two times tables before the garlands could be exchanged.

The groom failed the simple “maths test” after he could not recite them. The bride’s suspicions were proven and she called off the wedding.
