According to US President Donald Trump, India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire.

Trump made the announcement on May 10, 2025, in a post on Truth Social.

He said that “after a long night of talks mediated by the United States, both countries have come to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE”.

The ceasefire was later confirmed by officials in both countries.

India’s foreign secretary, Vikram Misri, told reporters that Pakistan’s military contacted India shortly after 3:30 pm local time.

He said the two sides agreed to “stop all firing and military action” on land, air, and sea from 5 pm onwards.

Pakistan’s foreign minister, Ishaq Dar, posted a similar statement on X.

He said: “Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect.

“Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!”

India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said:

“India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action.

“India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so.”

According to the Pakistan Airport Authority (APA), Pakistan’s airspace has been fully restored for all types of flights.

Indian Navy Captain Raghu Nair confirmed the ceasefire is being observed and the country’s navy, air force and army has been instructed to adhere to this.

He said that since the tragic events a few days ago, India’s responses have been “measured and responsible”.

Meanwhile, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh said several attempts were made by Pakistan on a “misinformation campaign”.

She stated: “We hold every place of worship of all faiths in the highest regard.”

Singh added that “no religious sites have been targeted by the Indian armed forces”, refuting Pakistan’s claims that mosques were hit during the fighting.

Captain Nair added that while India’s army, navy and armed forces will be adhering to the agreement reached today – the army remains “vigilant to retain the sovereignty of India”.

“We remain prepared to launch what is necessary for the defence of our nation.”

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated, with dozens of casualties.

The two countries accused each other of being the aggressor, and continued exchanging drone and artillery fire.

Calls for de-escalation and restraint seemed to be ignored. However, the two countries have now agreed on a ceasefire and will resume talks on May 12.
