Lahore Qalandars have decided to retain their key player Fakhar Zaman

On December 13, 2023, all six franchises participating in the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) finalised their squads for the upcoming tournament.

The highly anticipated event is scheduled to unfold in multiple cities across Pakistan in 2024.

The star-studded draft for the tournament took place at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore, with key figures from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), franchise owners and coaches in attendance.

Players for each team were categorised into Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver, Emerging and Supplementary categories.

Teams had to fill three spots each in the Platinum, Diamond and Gold categories.

They also had to fill in the Silver and Emerging categories, followed by two players in the Supplementary category.

In a bid to assemble optimal squads for the upcoming tournament, each team made strategic moves.

Islamabad United, aiming to excite pace enthusiasts, has enlisted the services of Hunain Shah and Ubaid Shah to complement their existing pace talent, Naseem Shah.

The side also drafted the English pair Jordan Cox and Tymal Mills.

On the other hand, Lahore Qalandars have decided to retain their key player Fakhar Zaman, who was initially released from the squad.

Qalandars also selected South African batsman Rassie van der Dussen, ensuring he will return to the Pakistan Super League.

Qalandars also secured Sahibzada Farhan, the highest run-scorer from the 2023-24 National T20 Cup.

Meanwhile, Multan Sultans have secured the return of their pace bowler Shahnawaz Dahani and added Chris Jordan to reinforce their pace attack.

Sultans were 2023’s runners-up and they selected England pair Dawid Malan and England all-rounder David Willey.

Peshawar Zalmi has struck a commendable equilibrium between youthful talent and seasoned players, incorporating individuals such as Lungi Ngidi and Mehran Mumtaz into their roster.

They have also opted to retain the promising pace bowler Salman Irshad. Additionally, Quetta Gladiators have bolstered their spin attack by bringing in the experienced Usman Qadir.

Meanwhile, Karachi Kings welcome new additions in the form of Mohammad Nawaz, Anwar Ali, and the young Arafat Minhas to their squad.

Multan Sultans traded Shan Masood to the Kings in exchange for the first pick in the Diamond category.

He has now been appointed the franchise’s captain, just days after he became the national side’s Test skipper.

A total of 485 overseas players initially signed up to take part in the draft as the six PSL teams looked to complete their 18-man squads.
