"It's just bizarre and cringey."
Humza Yousaf has been mocked for taking part in an awkward video promoting a £65 counselling session on “ego states” and “love languages”.
The former First Minister wore a Scotland football shirt in the advert, which plugged his wife Nadia El-Nakla’s business, NY Counselling.
The Instagram video shows Yousaf asking: “Hey babe, can I go out with my friends tonight?” three times while perched on a table.
Ms El-Nakla, an SNP councillor in Dundee, responds in three ways – needy, controlling and mature – each showing a different communication style.
She says: “It’s really helpful to understand how we communicate so that we can improve our communication within our relationships.”
Ms El-Nakla adds: “If you want to know more about the ego states of child, adult and parent then come along to my therapy session.”
A second video promotes the women-only event in Dundee on June 29.
Ms El-Nakla says: “We’ll be doing relaxation with Qi Gong, which is a mindfulness activity.
“And we’ll also be looking at our love languages.”
Humza Yousaf, who served as First Minister for 14 months, reposted the video and said:
“I am biased, but she is quite good! I am also in the doghouse so need to be nice.”

A Scottish Tory spokesman said: “If only Humza Yousaf had this sage relationship advice before ditching the Greens, which led to him being booted out of Bute House by his bitter exes.”
Another viewer wrote: “It’s just bizarre and cringey.
“His character behaves more like a wee boy asking his mum permission than a man communicating with his partner.”
The Conservative Party spokesman added:
“Let’s hope Humza doesn’t turn up to this women-only event or he might ask, ‘Where are all the men?’”
The remark refers to a 2023 gaffe when Humza Yousaf met Ukrainian women whose husbands were fighting in the war.
At the time, he asked: “Where are all the men?”
The video has also raised questions about the appropriateness of Humza Yousaf promoting a commercial enterprise.
His MSP register of interests lists a limited company he co-owns with his wife, H & N Yousaf Ltd, described as “a company providing other business support service activities”.
However, it does not mention Nadia’s counselling business, NY Counselling & Training.
