"These are old commitments."

Arijit Singh’s manager has clarified that the singer’s appearance on Awarapan 2‘s title track is not a comeback from retirement.

The clarification came after the release of ‘Yeh Awarapan’ sparked a massive wave of fan speculation online.

The song reignited excitement among fans who took it as a sign that the beloved singer had reversed his retirement decision.

However, his team has firmly confirmed that the track was recorded to honour a commitment made well before the retirement announcement.

Arijit’s manager stated: “He is just completing the projects that were finalised before the retirement was announced.

“Arijit isn’t doing a comeback in playback singing. These are old commitments.”

The statement made clear that fans should not interpret ‘Yeh Awarapan’ as a signal of any change in his professional plans.

‘Yeh Awarapan’ has been composed by Amaal Mallik with lyrics penned by celebrated lyricist Rashmi Virag for the film.

The song has been picturised on Emraan Hashmi, who reprises his beloved character of Shivam Pandit in Awarapan 2.

It touches on themes of grief and inner conflict, very much in keeping with the emotional tone of the original film.

The track has been released under the Sony Music India banner and reunites Arijit with Mukesh Bhatt’s production house Vishesh Films.

This reunion carries considerable nostalgic weight for fans of the singer and the production house’s long shared history together.

Arijit first shot to nationwide fame with the iconic chartbuster ‘Tum Hi Ho’ from Mohit Suri’s 2013 musical romance Aashiqui 2.

That film was also backed by Vishesh Films, making his return to the banner a full-circle moment for longtime admirers.

The retirement announcement itself came back in January 2026 and left fans across the country deeply surprised and emotional.

Arijit first shared the update on Instagram before elaborating further on X, where he explained the personal reasons behind his decision.

He spoke about his growing inclination toward classical music and a desire to devote more time to what he truly loves.

Despite the retirement, the singer was keen to reassure fans that he would not be disappearing from the music world entirely.

He wrote: “God has been really kind to me. I am a fan of good music and in future will be learning more and doing more on my own as a small little artist.

“Thanks again for all your support.

“I still have to finish some pending commitments; I will finish them.

“So you might get some releases this year. Just to be clear that I won’t stop making music.”

Just weeks after that announcement, Arijit Singh released a new independent single ‘Raina‘, which was received positively by fans everywhere.
