"This has created a mistrust in institutions"
Two nursery workers have been convicted after leaving children bloodied and bruised in a series of shocking attacks at a West London day care centre.
Anbreen Tariq and Salima Fajal physically abused three children, including some with special needs, at the £2,000-a-month nursery.
Chilling CCTV footage captured mum-of-four Fajal grabbing a three-year-old girl by the arm, lifting her into the air and slapping her twice.
The abuse came to light when Fajal phoned the girl’s parents to say her nose was bleeding. When they arrived at the nursery, they found their daughter with a bruised eye and redness on her cheeks and nose.
Police examined CCTV and uncovered further incidents of abuse.
Officers said some footage was deliberately deleted, raising fears that other children may have been attacked.

Fajal and Tariq were arrested and later pleaded guilty to multiple counts of child cruelty.
Isleworth Crown Court heard the pair abused the children between March and July 2021.
Both women blamed each other once the abuse was exposed, and prosecutors said they had even kept CCTV clips to use as blackmail.
One clip showed Tariq hitting a non-verbal autistic three-year-old boy on the back of the head with a mobile phone. He was also kicked in the back while crying on the floor.
The boy’s father said in a victim impact statement:
“This had had a deep emotional and mental impact on my family.
“The way my wife and I found out was not ideal. The first we knew was when Fajal came into our office with someone pretending to be a whistleblower, who we know now is Tariq.
“My wife burst into tears when she saw the video. This has created a mistrust in institutions who are supposed to be looking after our child.
“My son could not tell us what was happening because he is autistic.”
The CCTV also showed Tariq holding down a two-year-old boy. His mother told the court she was “absolutely distraught” when she learned of the abuse.
She said: “For about six months after my son left the nursery, he did not want to be away from me.
“He would wake up, cry, and come to me.”
Fajal claimed she slapped the three-year-old girl because she was “choking”. She admitted two counts of child cruelty relating to two children and was given a suspended sentence.
Fajal was also ordered to pay £1,000 compensation to the girl’s family and £1,630 in court costs.
Tariq admitted three counts of child cruelty against three children and was jailed for 12 months.

The judge said: “The CCTV is deeply distressing to watch.
“What is striking is how causal this violence was.
“The victim impact statements make for very sobering reading and speak to the profound effect relating to the abuse which the children suffered at the nursery.
“There was an entirely inappropriate use of force which would have undoubtedly caused these children serious distress, pain and comfort.
“This was cruelty which you both casually subjected young and entirely innocent to, who were trusted to be in your care.”
