a ferocious slap to the side of the man's face

A viral video captured the moment a security guard slapped a shopper inside a Poundland store.

The force of the blow was so hard that the man’s sunglasses were knocked off his face.

Footage on X showed the man delivering the slap to a baseball cap-wearing cyclist inside Poundland’s Bradford Forster Square store.

Taking place on September 1, 2024, the security guard was from a neighbouring shop and had followed the man into the discount store.

Filmed by another customer, the clip showed the pair in a heated argument near the checkouts.

The security guard then grabs and yanks the handlebars of the man’s bicycle.

In reaction, the cyclist rolls the front wheel of his bike into the guard who responds by prodding the front tyre with his foot.

The pair exchange a few words.

As they argue, the security guard becomes more aggressive and eventually delivers a ferocious slap to the side of the man’s face, causing his sunglasses to fly off his head and fall to the ground.

The cyclist shouts “no, no” while a female customer can be heard yelling “oi”.

When the security guard continues to walk forward, a woman in a pink jacket and a Poundland staff member try to split the two men apart.

The staff member has to physically restrain the guard and pull him back before placing his arm around his shoulder and ushering him away.

Meanwhile, a few shoppers look on.

The cyclist then reappears, seemingly calmed down and notices the person recording.

He says: “Are you filming this? Are you filming this? Thanks.”

The confrontation was posted to social media along with the caption:

“Meanwhile in Poundland Bradford, security slaps a customer.”

As the clip went viral, social media users gave their reactions to the incident.

Hitting out at the security guard, one said:

“Should be fired from his job. Security isn’t allowed to act like this.”

However, one wondered why the man was allowed to bring his bike into the store:

“Why was the customer wheeling in his pushbike, surely they should be locked up outside.

“Security guard shouldn’t have slapped the customer but the customer shouldn’t be wheeling in his pushbike.”

A Poundland spokesperson said it was aware of the footage and had launched an investigation.

It confirmed the guard was from a neighbouring shop.

The spokesperson said: “We are aware of the video featuring a security guard from a neighbouring retailer who came into our Forster Square store on Sunday.

“We’re looking into precisely what happened as a matter of priority.”
