"Delhi Crime doesn’t glorify or sensationalise."
Netflix is bringing back Delhi Crime for its third season on November 13, and fans are asking if this gripping crime drama can surpass its Emmy-winning success.
The new chapter promises to be the show’s most harrowing yet, with Shefali Shah reprising her role as DCP Vartika Chaturvedi.
This time, she leads a tense investigation into a sprawling human trafficking network that stretches across India.
The story begins with the discovery of an abandoned baby, triggering a nationwide chase that tests the limits of justice, morality, and humanity.
Vartika soon finds herself confronting Meena, also known as Badi Didi, played by Huma Qureshi, a cold, calculating kingpin who builds her empire by exploiting young girls.
Described as the most challenging case of Vartika’s career, the season delves deep into the blurred lines between good and evil, and the hidden cruelty of society.
Netflix teased the upcoming instalment with the words, “Beyond reason, beyond borders. Ek aisa case jo har hadd paar karega.”
Shefali described returning as “Madam Sir” as deeply personal, adding:
“Vartika is fighting an enemy that not only crosses borders but exists in the shadows of everyday society.
“Human trafficking isn’t the act of a few; it’s a symptom of a world that looks away. But Vartika keeps fighting anyway, even if it means saving one life.”
Huma Qureshi said her role was “powerful yet unsettling”, explaining:
“Meena is shaped by trauma yet wields immense control. She’s both victim and perpetrator.
“Delhi Crime doesn’t glorify or sensationalise. It confronts the uncomfortable truths hiding in plain sight.”
The upcoming season is directed by Tanuj Chopra, with writing by Anu Singh Choudhary, Apoorva Bakshi, Michael Hogan, Mayank Tiwari, and Shubhra Swarup.
The returning cast includes Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang, Jaya Bhattacharya, and Anuraag Arora, joined by new faces Sayani Gupta, Mita Vasisht, Kelly Dorji, and Anshumaan Pushkar.
Produced by Golden Karavan and SK Global Entertainment, Delhi Crime has earned international acclaim since its debut.
Created and written by Richie Mehta, the Indian police procedural crime drama was developed with creative manager Chirag Shah and co-produced by Golden Karavan, Ivanhoe Productions, Film Karavan, and Poor Man’s Productions.
Filming for the first season began in Delhi in January 2018 and was completed in just 62 days.
The series covers the period from the horrific 2012 Delhi gang rape incident to the eventual arrest of the suspects.
Delhi Crime made its world premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, screening its first two episodes in the Indie Episodic category before releasing globally on Netflix on March 22, 2019.
It received critical acclaim for its performances, direction, and sensitive portrayal of the real-life case that inspired it.
The series made history at the 2020 International Emmy Awards, becoming the first Indian production to win Best Drama Series.
Its second season, released in August 2022, shifted focus to the crimes of the Chaddi Baniyan Gang and earned Shefali Shah an International Emmy nomination for Best Actress.
Now, Season 3 looks set to continue the show’s legacy of hard-hitting realism and emotional depth.
With Huma Qureshi’s addition and a narrative tackling the dark world of human trafficking, fans can expect a gripping exploration of justice and survival.
Delhi Crime Season 3 begins streaming on Netflix from November 13, marking the return of one of India’s most acclaimed and socially conscious dramas.
