"I would rather have someone else launch her"
Bollywood film producer Boney Kapoor has reacted to reports about his daughter Khushi Kapoor’s acting debut.
If the rumours are true, Khushi Kapoor will make her Bollywood debut with Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter, Suhana Khan.
The pair, alongside Saif Ali Khan’s son Ibrahim Ali Khan and Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda, are being launched by filmmaker Zoya Akhtar.
Akhtar is working on a Netflix adaptation of the comic book series Archie and is reportedly looking to cast the young stars in lead roles.
Now, Boney Kapoor has had his say on his daughter’s potential big break.
According to Kapoor, he has no knowledge of Khushi’s Kapoor entry into Bollywood. He told the media:
“I don’t know anything about this. I don’t know what you are talking about.”
However, Boney Kapoor has discussed Khushi Kapoor’s potential debut before.
Previously, Kapoor revealed that he would not launch his daughter himself, and would rather someone else do it.
Speaking of this, he said:
“I have the resources, but I would rather have someone else launch her because I am her father and one tends to get indulgent.
“You can’t afford to do that as a filmmaker and nor is it good for the actor.”
He added:
“I would want Khushi to find her own footing.
“She will be launched by someone I respect and someone I feel secure and safe about.”
Although Zoya Akhtar is reportedly launching Khushi Kapoor, she previously admitted that she would trust filmmaker Karan Johar to launch her also.
Karan Johar launched the Bollywood career of Khushi Kapoor’s sister, Janhvi Kapoor.
The sisters appeared on BBFs with Vogue 3 in 2019, with host Neha Dhupia asking Khushi Kapoor about her debut.
Kapoor admitted that she would follow Karan Johar into Bollywood, but would always have her father choose her first co-star.
Khushi Kapoor’s rumoured co-star Suhana Khan has been trending on Twitter since news of her debut broke.
Many are supportive of Khan’s entrance into Bollywood. However, some are calling out the industry for its obvious display of nepotism.
Speaking of Suhana Khan’s debut, one Twitter user said:
“Why Bollywood sucks… New talents like SSR, Pankaj Tripathi and many more who struggled to get a role…
“They serve tea to these nepo products then get back role then after lead role on seeing public demand.
“END NEPOTISM.”
