“Apparently I’m going for a drive.”
Bollywood actor Imran Khan was recently detained in Mumbai after joining a protest demonstration.
He was participating in solidarity with the Cockroach Janata Party at the time of detention.
The party is demanding the removal of India’s chief election commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar.
News of his arrest quickly prompted a wave of reactions across Indian and Pakistani social media.
Many users couldn’t help but draw comparisons between him and another prominent personality with the same name.
That comparison was drawn with PTI founder Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned since August 2023.
The Bollywood star appeared to take his arrest quite lightly on social media afterwards.
He took a selfie from inside the police van and shared it on Instagram, captioning it:
“Apparently I’m going for a drive.”
Within minutes of the news breaking, social media erupted over an unexpected detail.
Many users focused not on the charges but on the shared name itself.
They jokingly pointed out the commonality between the two prominent personalities from India and Pakistan.
Even the Bollywood actor appeared to join in on the joke through his Instagram comments.
Several users humorously noted that chanting “Release Imran Khan” now required specifying which country.
One user from Pakistan echoed similar sentiments while adding their own take:
“Imran Khan has been captured. Both Imran Khans are now in jail.”
Another Indian user simply wished for him to be released:
“Release Imran Khan. Humaray wala (Ours.)”
Others brought a third Imran Khan into the meme fest that followed online.
This referred to the Pakistani singer-songwriter and rapper known for his hit song ‘Amplifier’.
One user jokingly wondered whether the singer, born in the Netherlands, should also be concerned:
Another joked: “When is the Dutch government arresting Imran Khan so that the holy trilogy is complete?”

The Bollywood actor’s arrest also triggered a flood of memes linked to his debut film.
That film, Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, became a major reference point for internet users.
In the film, his character Jai Singh Rathore must complete three conditions to prove himself.
One of those conditions interestingly involves getting arrested, which users found fitting for the situation.
One user used a scene featuring Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah to draw this parallel.
They played Jai’s parents in the film, adding another layer to the online comparison.
In the movie, Jai also shares a long-standing rivalry with a local police officer.
That officer was played by actor Paresh Rawal, which another user referenced online.

Later in the film, Jai is shown riding a horse after being released from prison.
Naturally, this scene was also used by users to create fitting memes.

The ongoing protests are being led by the youth-driven Cockroach Janata Party in India.
They are demanding the resignation of the chief election commissioner over alleged voter list manipulation.
