"It’s like playing an iconic character"
Shraddha Kapoor has announced her upcoming role, however, many netizens trolled her with memes.
The actress is set to take on the iconic Naagin (snake-like being) in a new trilogy.
Whether it be on TV or in film, the shape-shifting serpent is extremely popular across India.
Shraddha will now play the role in the supernatural thriller which will reportedly be directed by Vishal Furia and produced by Nikhil Dwivedi.
Previously, the likes of Sridevi, Hema Malini and Rekha have taken on the role. Shraddha announced the news and expressed her excitement.
She said: “It’s an absolute delight for me to play a Naagin on screen.
“I have grown up watching, admiring and idolising Sridevi ma’am’s Nagina and Nigahen and always wanted to play a similar role rooted in Indian traditional folklore.
“It’s like playing an iconic character, which has always been so fascinating for the audience.”

While some users made funny memes of Shraddha Kapoor, others were more serious and called her a real-life Naagin in relation to the Sushant Singh Rajput case.
One person wrote: “You are real-life Naagin who defamed Sushant by saying he only procured drugs and you are all so good.
“Lost respect on you after that.. maybe your PAID PR gives you positive reviews.. not a single per cent of love from millions of Sushant fans… you lost your respect.”
Another said: “First share who killed Sushant and Disha. So many people are killed in Bollywood and you all are silent.
“You all are part of drugs mafia gang. Time for a change in Bollywood where outsiders gettings changes to act. Not drugs gangs nepotism. I really hope change will be coming.”
“You won’t need to put any extra effort for the role since the traits of a Naagin is already inbuilt in you.”
It is reported that the film trilogy will heavily rely on special effects, however, nothing else has been revealed.
Shraddha Kapoor was last seen in Street Dancer 3D and Baaghi 3.
While Street Dancer 3D was criticised, her reunion with Tiger Shroff in Baaghi 3 was praised.
Shraddha is set to star opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Luv Ranjan’s as-yet-untitled film.
