Another World, a Bangladeshi short film directed by KM Sohag Rana, has been selected for the fourth edition of Bulgaria’s Golden FEMI Film Festival.

The selection is a significant milestone for the director, who has received his first international recognition with this film.

The festival, known for celebrating global cinematic voices, will hold its award ceremony on June 7, 2025, at the Royal Hall of the Sofia Balkan Palace Hotel.

Bulgaria’s Vice President Iliana Iotova is set to attend the event as the festival’s honorary patron.

The official invitation to KM Sohag Rana was extended by Efemia Fard, the artistic director of the Golden FEMI Festival, on April 19.

Rana said: “It’s a different kind of happiness to see your work reach a global platform.”

He thanked his mentor, filmmaker Muhammad Mostafa Kamal Raz, for guiding him in learning the craft.

For Rana, the recognition is more than just an accolade – it’s a validation of his voice and message.

Another World tells the emotional story of two orphaned brothers, Aladin and Alamin.

What makes the storytelling even more compelling is the casting choice.

Both characters are portrayed by real-life street children from Dhaka’s Uttara area.

Their raw performances bring a layer of authenticity rarely seen on screen.

Supporting roles in the film are played by GM Masud and Marzia.

The cinematography is by Fuad Bin Alamgir, while Mahfuz Leon handled both editing and colour grading.

Parvez Mia produced the film, bringing together a team that worked passionately on a story rooted in harsh realities.

Speaking on the film’s core message, Rana said: “Through this short film, I wanted to deliver a message.

“I’ve raised simple yet profound questions from the perspective of children.”

According to him, these questions reflect not only on society but also on the state and its responsibilities toward the vulnerable.

The international spotlight on Another World is also a moment of pride for Bangladeshi cinema.

It highlights how powerful storytelling, even in short form, can travel beyond borders when it comes from a place of sincerity.

The film’s raw, human elements have clearly resonated with audiences and curators abroad.

This achievement comes at a time when Bangladesh is gaining attention on the global film map.

Multiple short films from the country have been receiving International recognition lately.
