Makeup Artist creates Desi Disney Princess Looks

A Desi American makeup artist has recreated Disney princess looks, all with Indian inspirations! She has shared her stunning recreations on Instagram.

Hamel as Snow White and Belle

"Growing up I always wished there was a Disney Princess I could relate to."

Every Disney fan will have at least one favourite princess, from Cinderella to Snow White. Celebrated throughout the decades, many have even dressed up as them.

But have you ever reimagined your favoured Disney princess with a touch of Desiness? Makeup artist (MUA) Hamel Patel has made this fantasy into reality!

On Instagram, the Desi American created a unique series of looks revolving around these iconic characters. With each princess, she has reimagined them with Indian inspirations!

Her series includes the original line-up: Cinderella, Snow White, Belle (The Beauty and the Beast), Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Jasmine (Aladdin), Ariel (The Little Mermaid), Pocahontas and Mulan.

If one takes a closer look, you can truly see the amazing detail and thought Hamel has put into her creations.

For example, her reimagining of Cinderella still keeps the character’s elegant beehive hairstyle with a blue headband. However, she changes the gown to an enchanting saree. Her chocolate eyes dazzle with the contrast of shimmering eyeshadow and mascara.

Hamel also adorns herself with silver jewellery, such as a nose ring and decadent earrings. All completed with a silver bindi on her forehead.

Next, in her look as Princess Aurora, Hamel decorates herself in stunning, gold jewellery. With her hair styled into loose waves, she places a maang tikka on her head, along with a majestic necklace and earrings.

Wearing a cream-and-pink saree, the Desi American dons pink eyeshadow and a rosy lip. Holding a beautiful rose in one hand, we absolutely love this Desi-inspired look!

When the MUA began this project, she explained how a lack of representation in Disney inspired her:

“Growing up I always wished there was a Disney Princess I could relate to, one that represented where I came from. So I came up with this idea many months ago and I’m so happy how they turned out!”

We have to applaud Hamel for her incredible work in this series. Each look truly gives a perfect mix of Disney and Indian influences.

After this project, we can’t wait to see if the Desi American will reimagine other characters with Indian twists.
