"unauthorised access was gained to some users"
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has detained an individual for allegedly hacking the website selling tickets for Atif Aslam’s concert in Dhaka.
It targeted Ticket Tomorrow, leaking sensitive personal data of concertgoers, including names, addresses, and contact details.
The breach was reportedly an attempt to damage the reputation of Triple Time Communications, the concert’s organiser, and its ticketing partner, Ticket Tomorrow.
Ticket Tomorrow acknowledged data leakage in a statement on Facebook, stating:
“We experienced an incident where unauthorised access was gained to some users alongside ticket information.
“We deeply apologise for any worry this may have caused.
“Please be assured that we have taken legal action against those involved and have strengthened our security measures.”
According to the investigation, the attack was aimed to sabotage the success of the ‘Magical Night 2.0’ concert, scheduled for November 29, 2024.
CID’s Cyber Intelligence and Risk Team uncovered that the accused, Arif Arman, collaborated with others to orchestrate the breach.
This allegedly included Mozammel Haque Johny, the Chairman of Adventor Global Ltd, and Abdullah Al Mamun, the Chief Technology Officer of Tickify.
Recorded phone conversations revealed that the cyberattack was motivated by jealousy and professional rivalry.
Using fake accounts, the conspirators leaked the stolen data online to tarnish the reputations of the companies involved.
The CID also suspects additional individuals from Adventor Global Ltd and Tickify may have played a role in the breach.
Devices seized during Arman’s arrest, including laptops, phones, and external hard drives, are undergoing forensic analysis.
CID officials expressed satisfaction with the swift resolution of the case, emphasising its importance for maintaining public trust.
A spokesperson said:
“This was a sensitive issue, and we are grateful to our team for their timely action against such malicious activities.”
The data breach has raised broader concerns about cybersecurity and ethical practices in Bangladesh’s event management sector.
As the investigation continues, authorities have hinted at the possibility of further arrests and legal action against those involved.
The incident highlights the growing need for stringent data protection measures, especially for high-profile events like ‘Magical Night 2.0’.
Meanwhile, the concert, slated to be held at the Bangladesh Army Stadium, has already drawn widespread public attention.
The event will feature Atif Aslam alongside local stars like Tahsan Khan, the band Kaaktaal and Pakistani artist Abdul Hannan.
