"I know exactly what it's about"
Bassist Mohini Dey recently took to Instagram to address the ongoing rumours that her divorce announcement was linked to the separation of composer AR Rahman.
On November 19, 2024, Rahman announced his decision to part ways with his wife, Saira Banu, after 29 years of marriage.
In his announcement, Rahman shared: “We dreamed of reaching 30 years together, but life often carries its own unseen conclusions.
“Even the divine may feel the weight of broken hearts.”
He thanked friends for their compassion during this difficult time, emphasising the need for privacy as they navigate their separation.
Just hours later, Mohini and her husband Mark Hartsuch announced their own split.
In a joint post, they made it clear that they remain friends and will still be working together.
Both of them requested respect for their privacy and asked the public to refrain from judging their situation.
The coincidence of both couples’ separations sparked widespread rumours, suggesting that Mohini was somehow involved in Rahman’s divorce.
Despite the timing of the announcements, AR Rahman’s legal representative firmly dismissed any connection between the two events.
In a subsequent statement, it was made clear that both couples arrived at their decisions independently.
In response to the rumours, Mohini Dey expressed her frustration in an Instagram Story.
She wrote: “I’ve been getting a humungous amount of requests for interviews and I know exactly what it’s about so I have to respectfully turn each one down because I am not interested in fuelling into ABSOLUTE BS.
“I believe my energy is not worth spending on RUMOURS. Kindly, respect my privacy.”
AR Rahman’s son Ameen also condemned the “baseless” rumours.
Defending his father, Ameen said:
“My father is a legend, not just for his incredible contributions, but for the values, respect, and love he has earned over the years.
“It’s disheartening to see false and baseless rumours being spread.”
“Let us all remember the importance of truth and respect when speaking about someone’s life and legacy.
“Please refrain from engaging in or spreading such misinformation. Let’s honour and preserve his dignity and the incredible impact he has had on all of us.”
AR Rahman’s daughter Raheema shared her own thoughts:
“Rumours are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.
“Honestly, get a life.”
