The renowned music composer AR Rahman took to social media to announce some sad news.
Rahman revealed that he and his wife, Saira Banu, were to separate after nearly 30 years of marriage.
In a tweet on X, Rahman wrote: “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end.
“Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts.
“Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again.
“To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter.”
He signed off with the hashtag: “#arrsairaabreakup”.
While this news surprised many, some viewers questioned AR Rahman’s hashtag.
One user wrote: “Why a hashtag after this? Are you out of your mind?”
Another said: “The hashtag for a divorce post…”
Some netizens extended sympathy for Rahman and Saira.

Talking about the separation, the former couple’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, said:
“Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them.
“One that neither party feels able to bridge at this time.
“Saira and her husband, AR Rahman, request privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time as they navigate this difficult chapter in their life.”
During an interview on Rendezvous With Simi Garewal, Rahman was asked why he opted for an arranged marriage.
The composer replied: “To be honest, I didn’t have the time to go and search for a bride.
“I was doing all those films – Rangeela, Bombay, and all that stuff.
“I was so busy with that, but I knew that was the right time for me to get married. I was 29.
“And I told my mother, ‘Find me a bride’.
“I want a simple wife. The one who won’t give me much trouble. So I could carry on doing my music.”
Rahman and Saira married in 1995 and share three children together.
AR Rahman has composed the music for many Bollywood classics.
In 2009, he won two Academy Awards for his work in the British film, Slumdog Millionaire (2008).
