the Lorenzo Gay Club would be a step towards inclusivity

An application has been submitted to the DC of Abbottabad, Pakistan. The application seeks a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the establishment of a gay club in the city.

The application, reportedly submitted by Preetum Giani, proposes to set up the ‘Lorenzo Gay Club’ in Abbottabad.

It aims to provide a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals to meet and socialise.

It would provide a secure environment for members to converse and refresh, with strict guidelines against engaging in sexual activities on the premises.

The applicant pointed out the ‘hypocrisy’ of allowing certain recreational establishments while denying others based on sexual orientation.

Giani drew a parallel with snooker clubs and questioned why a similar space could not be created for those interested in same-sex relationships.

The applicant emphasised the importance of upholding human rights, citing the Constitution as a basis for equality and non-discrimination.

They asserted that the establishment of the Lorenzo Gay Club would be a step towards inclusivity, demonstrating justice and tolerance in a society often marred by prejudice.

The application has sparked a debate among the residents of Abbottabad. This is because discussions about LGBTQ+ rights remain taboo in Pakistan.

Individuals have expressed concern about the potential social and cultural ramifications of such an establishment.

The Deputy Commissioner’s office has yet to issue a formal response to the application.

The local authorities are navigating a delicate matter and it remains to be seen how they will respond to this request.

The application has stirred controversy highlighting the ongoing debate about LGBTQ+ rights in the country.

Individuals are calling for an arrest of the applicant since it goes entirely against the religion and law of Pakistan.

A user questioned: “What do they think is going to happen? They are asking for their ‘rights’ while violating everything that the law says?”

One said:

“Neither same-sex marriages nor civil unions are permitted under current law.”

“People who have engaged in same-sex marriages are arrested and prosecuted. How do they not know this?”

Another stated: “If they need it so badly, they should move abroad. There is no place for gays in Pakistan.

“Fear for your life and leave before you are sent to correctional facilities.”

One commented: “Unbelievable. LGBTQ community is becoming extra bold as time goes on.”

It is reported that the application was rejected, with Additional Deputy Commissioner Abbas Afridi calling the application impractical.
