There is also a steamy kissing scene between the two actors.
The clock is ticking and every second is pivotal. One mistake and someone’s life could be over. Fear not, as Jai Singh Rathore (JSR) played by Anil Kapoor, is back with a bang to save us!
If you have missed seeing Anil Kapoor in (and as the producer of) 24, the international star is back on Colors TV, with the explosive season 2.
At the UK press launch of 24 Season 2, Colors CEO, Raj Nayak mentions:
“We’ve had a great season. This is one show that has captured the imagination of all the people in India. This time, I think we are launching in the UK, almost simultaneously as we’ve done in India. We are very very happy.”
It also seems that Anil Kapoor is also quite privileged to (yet again) step into Kiefer Sutherland’s original role from the hit US Series. But of course, our very own ATU Chief Jai Singh Rathore is also a ‘hero’ of his own league.
Talking about the role, Anil mentions that he (his character) ‘can go to any extent and sacrifice anything in his life for the security of the nation and do anything for his country.’
But essaying an action-oriented character certainly isn’t easy. Anil Kapoor discusses how the physical preparation was pivotal for his performance:
“There was a lot of action. He (JSR) has to be slightly swifter and if there is a possibility where there’s a hand-to-hand physical confrontation with the enemy, he has to be prepared besides using ammunition.”
Plus, when portraying such a role it becomes quite challenging to distinguish between reel and real-life.
“Usually, I try my best to detach myself, but the attachment/detachment in 24 is slightly more difficult because it’s 200 days of relentless work between 14-16 hours.”
The last nail-biting season was about Jai Singh Rathore’s race against time to save the Prime Ministerial candidate Aditya Singhania (Neil Bhoopalam) from assassination alongside government agent, Nikita Rai (Mandira Bedi).
Fans can expect the second season to begin three years after the conclusion of season one. JSR is in rehabilitation for alcoholism. Although his daughter Kiran (Sapna Pabbi) supports him, his son Veer (Adhish Khana) who is now a part of the Intelligence Bureau, does not.
Meanwhile, drug lord Haroon Sherchan (Sikander Kher) threatens to release a contagious airborne virus, which will annihilate humanity, unless his brother Roshan (Ashish Vidyarthi) is released from prison.
As radical and dangerous plots unfold, the new ATU Chief, Shibani Mallick (Sakshi Tanwar) seeks help from Prime Minister Aditya Singhania, to discuss security measures. Confident that only Jai Singh Rathore can prevent this brutality, Aditya summons JSR to combat this evil.
Several faces alongside Sapna Pabbi and Neil Bhoopalam return in the second season. Anita Raj – who essays Neil Bhoopalam’s mother – will again be seen in her darkish role and Shabana Azmi makes a cameo appearance.
While the second season of 24 seems promising, things are set to heat up this time. Surveen Chawla (of Hate Story 2) has entered the show as Anil Kapoor’s love interest. Allegedly, there is also a steamy kissing scene between the two actors.
Commenting on the lip-lock hype, Anil says:
“I’ve kissed in my films when there has been a need to. In 24, a liplock was needed. So we went ahead and did it. About time we stopped making a fuss about these things. The content in 24 is not juvenile.”
Like any movie, the first episode had to go through the censorship process. In fact, according to Mr. Kapoor, this is the first time an Indian television series is being treated like a film.
When DESIblitz asked Anil about any fun on the set, he replied: “With the filming of 24 being a very long process due nature of the show, naturally, there are many moments when the cast share some fun together but as it is a serious series we have to be focused and professional.”
Well, the promotions of 24 Season 2 were certainly like that for a film. On Saturday 20, August 2016, Anil Kapoor visited the East Shopping Centre in East London, where lucky fans had the opportunity to meet and snap selfies with the star.
On route to the shopping centre, the 59-year-old actor tweets:
“#EastShoppingCentre! #24IndiaS2 is here with the madness… Always great to see so many happy faces.”
The event turned out to be a huge success with approximately hundreds of people waiting to catch a glimpse of their favourite hero.
Anil Kapoor told DESIblitz that he did not rule out producing other international dramas for Indian TV but at this moment, his focus is totally on 24 Season 2.
Catch 24 Season 2 on Saturdays and Sundays at 9:30pm on Colors TV (Sky Channel 786, Freesat Channel 662, Virgin Channel 826).
