Amir Khan and his wife Faryal Makhdoom attended the launch of a takeaway kebab shop in Ilford.

The atmosphere was “electric” as hundreds of fans gathered outside The Ottoman Doner in Ilford Lane on November 13, 2021.

Amir had previously left a comment on the takeaway’s Instagram page, saying:

“Come and check us out in Ilford. See you there.”

At its launch, The Ottoman Doner gave away the first 200 kebabs for free.

In addition to the Ilford takeaway, The Ottoman Doner already has other branches in Whitechapel, Manor Park, Poplar and Docklands.

Friends Sabir Ahmed and Alvee Pritom were at the front of the queue outside The Ottoman Doner, cheering as the boxer turned up with his wife.

Sabir said: “The opening was at 3 pm and we got there for noon.

“Despite being three hours early, there were still three ahead of us in the queue.

“It started building up and by 3 pm it was chaos.”

It was reported that when Amir Khan turned up, people began rushing towards his car and security were forced to intervene.

Sabir told the Ilford Recorder: “All in all, the atmosphere was electric and the whole of Ilford Lane was buzzing.

“We wanted to meet him as he is a boxing legend.

“He is a two-time world champion and Britain’s youngest boxing medal champion.

“Like us, he is south Asian and British, and for him to represent Britain in boxing and the Olympics makes us proud.”

The two friends had bought a toaster beforehand that they asked Amir to sign. They later created a TikTok video of the former world champion signing it.

Sabir continued: “Khan was very welcoming of it and we managed to get a good reaction.

“We’re planning to sell the toaster and gain as much as we can from it.”

“We know Amir Khan has a good sense of humour, seeing him in I’m A Celeb. We knew he would enjoy it.”

As an amateur, Amir Khan became Britain’s youngest Olympic medallist in 2004 at the age of 17.

Amir has also taken part in reality and game shows. In 2017, he appeared on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

He and his wife were also the stars of their own reality show, titled Meet the Khans: Big in Bolton.

Amir has two daughters and a son with Faryal.
