Abid Kashmiri Passes Away at 74

The sudden demise of veteran actor Abid Kashmiri has spread grief across Pakistan’s entertainment industry and among fans.

Veteran actor and comedian Abid Kashmiri passed away on October 11, 2024, leaving behind a legacy cherished by many in Pakistan.

His family explained that he had been battling some health issues, but nothing critical before his sudden demise.

In an emotional interview with Urdu Point, his wife recounted Abid’s last moments.

She revealed: “Two days ago, he caught malaria. He was perfectly fine and was talking to me.

“The next day, he woke up and was sitting, probably waiting for me.

“I took him to the washroom, and suddenly his eyes turned to the opposite side. His lips turned white.

“I instantly called my granddaughter and my son-in-law, who is a doctor.

“Dr Saab tried hard, but he couldn’t breathe. He passed away on the spot due to a heart attack.”

She noted that despite being diabetic and weakened by age, he had been in good spirits and health.

The couple had been planning to return to the USA on October 20 after a month-long visit to Pakistan.

His funeral is set to take place after their son arrives from abroad.

Abid Kashmiri, born on May 4, 1950, in Lahore, made significant contributions to the entertainment industry.

He appeared in hundreds of television dramas, stage performances and films.

Renowned for his spontaneous comedic talent, he was a beloved figure in Pakistani cinema.

The actor gained widespread recognition through his role as Gullu Badshah in the hit PTV drama Samundar, which endeared him to audiences.

His extensive body of work includes notable titles such as Suraj Kay Sath Sath, Teesra Kinara, Apnay Log, Lahore Gate, and more.

Abid’s contributions were recognised in 1988 when he received the Nigar Award for ‘Best Comedian’ for his role in the film Bazaar-e-Husn.

The news of his passing has prompted an outpouring of grief in the entertainment community and among fans.

Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan expressed deep sorrow over his demise.

Social media has been flooded with tributes and prayers for the late actor.

One user wrote: “May Allah grant him a special place in Jannah. Ameen”

Another said: “This was so sudden. Indeed, there is a fixed time of death. May Allah bless him in the next life as well.”

Abid Kashmiri is survived by two sons and two daughters, and his legacy will continue to resonate with millions who admire his work.
