"Please don't boycott my film."
Aamir Khan has finally reacted to the hashtag #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha which has been trending on Twitter ever since the trailer of the film was released.
Adapted by Atul Kulkarni and directed by Advait Chandan, Laal Singh Chaddha is an official Hindi remake of Robert Zemeckis’ Oscar Award-winning 1994 film Forrest Gump, which featured Hollywood star Tom Hanks in the titular role.
Reacting to the trend, Aamir Khan said that it hurt him to see such a negative trend on social media and said it was sad.
At a recent press event, Aamir was asked about the Twitter trend and he requested the audience to not boycott his film.
As per a report by India Today, Aamir was asked if such campaigns make him upset, and the actor said:
“Yes, I feel sad. Also, I feel sad that some of the people who are saying this, in their hearts, believe that I am someone who doesn’t like India.
“In their hearts, they believe, but it is untrue. It is rather unfortunate that some people feel that way. That’s not the case. Please don’t boycott my film. Please watch my film.”
Ever since the trailer of Laal Singh Chaddha was released, a certain section of netizens has been trending #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha.
Netizens have bought up a previous statement from Aamir Khan, who had once said that India wasn’t safe anymore.
People have also been sharing clips of Aamir Khan’s previous film PK and have claimed that it was hurting the sentiments of a certain religion.
Taking to Twitter, one user wrote: “As your wife said you are not safe in India why are you telecasting your film here? #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha.”
Another user wrote: “#AamirKhan has time and again not only hurt Hindus by various statements but also created fear about the Nation in national and International media.”
Since the trailer was released, Laal Singh Chaddha has been drawing negative reactions.
Netizens also questioned the casting of Mona Singh as Laal’s mother in the film, despite the actress being 17 years younger than Aamir Khan.
Many took to Twitter and Reddit to criticise the makers.
They also pointed out Bollywood’s habit of casting younger actors in senior roles instead of casting older actors.
Laal Singh Chaddha will reportedly unfold some of India’s historic events as seen through the eyes of a man.
The film also stars Kareena Kapoor and Naga Chaitanya and will be released on August 11, 2022.
