2011 UK Asian Music Awards Nominees

The UK Asian Music Awards race is now on with the nominees being announced. Popular names like Jay Sean, Sukshinder Shinda, Hard Kaur, Miss Pooja and Mumzy Stranger are all on the list of the 2011 nominations, as voted by the public

The nominees for the 2011 UK Asians Music Awards were announced at a plush party in the Gatecrasher nightclub in Birmingham. The evening will played host to a number of performances throughout the night from the likes of chart topping Bhangra singer, Foji, hot newcomer Gary Sandhu and reggae artist Roachkilla, alongside pop sensation Mumzy Stranger and Bhangra star H Dhami

The party had the buzz of a music night that waited eagerly to find out who was nominated for the various categories for the 2011 UK Asian Music Awards which will take place on March 31st at The Roundhouse in London, UK.

Mumzy Stranger picked up for nominations on the night for Best Album (Journey Begins), Best Male Act, Best Urban Act and Best Video. The BBC Asian Network had three of their presenters nominated for the Best Radio Show category, Nihal, Noreen Khan and Bobby Friction were all nominated.

After his performance on the night, Mumzy Stranger, said of his nominations: “It feels great to be nominated for another UK Asian Music Award! I spent the majority of 2010 touring the country and making new music for the fans. It’s great to have a platform like the Lebara Mobile UK AMA that recognises and celebrates all the hard work that everyone in the industry puts in. Fingers crossed I pick up an award in 2011!”

Other announcements included Sukshinder Shinda being nominated for the Best Music Producer, Best Male Act, Best Desi Act and Best Album (Jadoo) categories; Jay Sean for the Best Urban Act, Best Video and Best male Act categories; Punjabi By Nature for Best Music Producer, Best Video and Best Album (Crowd Pleaser), and Miss Pooja for Best International Act and Best International Album (Panjaban).

Newcomer to the Bhangra scene, Foji, got two nominations for the categories Best Album and Best Newcomer for his album ‘Dafa Hoja,’ excited about being nominated for Best Album he told BBC Asian Network: “It’s shocking to be honest! To be nominated alongside such names as Shinda and Punjabi MC is amazing. I’m thankful for everyone who’s voted for me.” Talking about the other category he said: “It’s excellent! It’s going to be exciting to see how it goes.”

Female acts with nominations include Bollywood artist Hard Kaur, urban pop star MIA and actress/singer Preeya Kalidas.
