Filmfare Awards 2011 Nominees

The 56th Filmfare Awards are happening slightly earlier this year compared to the usual February date. But there is no doubt that the big films of 2010 will be hoping to bag the ‘black lady’ for their hard work with a competition between the Khans being very evident.

There has been some media criticism of the nominees

The 56th Filmfare awards event celebrates the 2010 hit Bollywood films, actors, music and more will be held this year on Saturday, 29th January at Yash Raj Films Studios, in Mumbai, India. The show will be hosted by Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan.

Interestingly, this year the organisers of the event have gone back to the original design of the trophy that was used 56 years ago. “We are crafting the Black Lady using the same mould and metal as we did then, so the size and weight are replicated as well,” Tarun Rai, CEO of WorldWide Media which owns Filmfare said.

A special nominations party was held at the JW Marriot hotel to announce the nominees for the awards this year. With a fashion show provided by Manish Malhotra for the night and dress sense for some of the stars, Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were some of the big names at the bash. Other celebrity guests present included Imran Khan, Manoj Bajpayee, Ronit Roy, Rajat Barmecha, Arbaaz Khan, Abhinav Kashyap, Arjan Bajwa, Kunal Khemu, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Sameera Reddy and Prachi Desai.

There are two big films going head to head for the awards this year. SRK’s My Name Is Khan and Salman Khan’s Dabangg are both nominees for many of the award categories.

Sponsor of the show Idea Cellular will engage its GSM mobile users by relaying the winners’ names as soon as they are announced.

There has been some media criticism of the nominees this year. Many feel that the awards are more focused on the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood with A-list stars due to sponsor pressures rather than respecting some film releases in 2010 that were very worthy of being included in the nominations. Films such as Love Sex Aur Dhokha (LSD), Do Dooni Char and Phas Gaye Re Obama, which all made contributions to the Indian film industry in 2010 were no where to be seen.

Some of the nominees were also questioned such as Kareena Kapoor’s role in Gol Maal 3 for Best Actress and the lack of appreciation for some of the music from 2010.

Looks like it will be a battle of the two Khans who are not on talking terms for the 56th Filmfare Awards.
