“The family ask for privacy at this difficult time.”

In North London, the tragic loss of Anita Mukhey, a beloved grandmother, has left a profound impact.

She was remembered for being “devoted to her family”.

At 66 years old, Anita worked part-time as a medical secretary for the NHS, a role that spoke to her caring nature and commitment to helping others.

The devastating incident unfolded in Edgware on May 9, 2024, at around 11:50 am.

Anita was going about her day when she was suddenly attacked.

The emergency services rushed to Burnt Oak Broadway upon receiving the distressing call for help.

Despite their swift efforts and the immediate medical attention given to Anita’s knife wounds, the severity of her injuries proved fatal, and she tragically passed away at the scene.

In a statement released through the Met Police on Sunday, her family said:

“Anita Mukhey, 66 years old, was a married mother and grandmother devoted to her family, who also worked part-time in the NHS as a Medical Secretary.

“The family ask for privacy at this difficult time.”

Footage showed people rushing to her aid shortly after she was stabbed.

Graphic footage of the aftermath had been shared on social media.

The Metropolitan Police urged people not to share the “enormously distressing” footage online.

On May 11, a police spokesman said: “A small number of social media users have posted graphic footage of the attack.

“It is enormously distressing for grieving families.

“We ask that these posts are deleted and others not to share them.”

The Met Police previously said the attack was an “isolated incident” and no further suspects were being sought.

Following the tragic death of Ms Mukhey, Jalal Debella, a 22-year-old individual, was apprehended on the same day in Colindale, a nearby area.

The arrest was directly linked to the incident involving the grandmother.

Debella faced serious charges and was swiftly brought before Willesden Magistrates’ Court on the subsequent Saturday.

During the court appearance, Debella was formally accused of murder alongside the charge of possessing an offensive weapon, specifically a knife.

The gravity of these allegations hung heavily as no pleas were initially entered during the court proceedings.

Given the severity of the accusations and the nature of the charges, Debella was remanded into custody pending further legal proceedings.

His next appearance is scheduled to take place at the Old Bailey on May 14, where the case will be further reviewed and deliberated upon.
