Why did Sonakshi Sinha Hide her Relationship with Zaheer Iqbal?

Sonakshi Sinha has revealed that her belief in the “evil eye” was the reason she kept her relationship with Zaheer Iqbal private until their wedding.

The Bollywood star opened up about her romantic journey during an appearance on Prime Video’s Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, where she shared candid insights into her love life.

Sonakshi and Zaheer dated for several years before tying the knot on June 23, 2024, in an intimate ceremony at their Mumbai residence.

The wedding was attended by close friends and family and was followed by a star-studded celebration at Bastian in Mumbai.

The couple’s heartfelt wedding post read: “On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017) in each other’s eyes, we saw love in its purest form and decided to hold on to it.”

Reflecting on her decision to keep her past relationships out of the spotlight, Sonakshi explained:

“I have kept my relationships under wraps because thoda nazar I believe in.

“Honestly, I didn’t want it to be public until I knew I was actually going to marry this person, which happened with Zaheer.”

The Double XL actor recalled that her connection with Zaheer was instant.

“When I saw him, it was an instant click. I just knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this guy,” she said.

Sonakshi added that she confessed her love within a week of meeting him, leaving Zaheer both surprised and amused.

“He called up his best friend and said, ‘Listen, I think she’s confused, she’s nuts!’” she laughed.

Sonakshi further revealed that within a month of meeting Zaheer, she told him she wanted to marry him.

“Within a month, I told him, ‘I’m gonna marry you only’. And seven years later, we did get married. I have never felt like that with anybody else.

“When I did, I didn’t hide it. If he ran away, he ran away, but clearly, he didn’t. It worked out well.”

The couple, who shared screen space in the 2022 film Double XL, had long sparked speculation about their relationship before confirming it through their wedding.

Fans praised their low-key celebration for its simplicity and authenticity, marking one of Bollywood’s most genuine love stories of recent times.

Meanwhile, Sonakshi is preparing for her highly anticipated Tollywood debut with the upcoming film Jatadhara, set to release on November 7.

The film will hit cinemas in both Hindi and Telugu and stars Sudheer Babu and Shilpa Shirodkar alongside her.

Directed by Venkat Kalyan, Jatadhara sees Sonakshi portraying Dhan Pisachani, a powerful mythological entity symbolising divine energy.

Producer Prerna Arora revealed that the team spent three months researching the character’s aura and appearance.

“Dhan Pisachani, in the truest sense, is the divine form of energy. We found a middle ground to make her visually magnetic while staying true to her mythological essence,” Arora shared.

Costume designer Mohit also dedicated months to crafting Sonakshi’s intricate look.

Every ornament and texture was designed to reflect Dhan Pisachani’s connection to wealth, energy, and cosmic balance.

Through this role, Sonakshi is set to bring to life one of mythology’s most enigmatic figures, marking a significant step in her cinematic journey.
