Get ready for the glamour and excitement as the highly anticipated 72nd Miss Universe Pageant unfolds on November 18.
The global stage is set in El Salvador, where 90 contestants from around the world will vie for the prestigious title, aiming to succeed R’Bonney Gabriel from the United States.
The contestants will face rigorous judging criteria, including personal statements, in-depth interviews, and presentations in both evening gowns and swimwear.
Each participant hopes to clinch the coveted Miss Universe crown, and the world is eagerly awaiting the announcement.
India’s representative for this grand event is the talented Shweta Sharda, a 23-year-old model hailing from Chandigarh.
Shweta’s journey to the Miss Universe stage began when she secured the prestigious Miss Diva Universe title earlier this year in Mumbai, succeeding Divita Rai.
Shweta’s story is one of determination and passion.
Having moved to Mumbai with her mother at the age of 16 to pursue a career in modelling, Shweta has since made a mark in the industry.
Her portfolio includes appearances on popular reality shows such as Dance India Dance, Dance Deewane, and Dance Plus.
Not only has she showcased her skills as a performer, but Shweta has also worked as a choreographer on the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
Beyond the glitz of the entertainment world, Shweta is also an academic achiever, holding a bachelor’s degree from the Indira Gandhi National Open University.
As Shweta gears up to represent India on the global stage, her introduction at the Miss Universe pageant was met with resounding applause from fans worldwide.
The official Instagram handle of Miss Diva proudly exclaimed, “Here comes your LIVA Miss Diva Universe 2023 Shweta Sharda.”
The Miss Universe pageant enjoys widespread popularity in India for various reasons.
Serving as a global platform, it offers participants international exposure to showcase their beauty, talent, and intellect.
For Indian contestants, it is not only an opportunity to enter the global entertainment and modelling industry but also a chance to represent and celebrate the cultural diversity of India on the world stage.
Participation in the pageant is often seen as a symbol of empowerment for women, emphasizing qualities like confidence, intelligence, and talent.
Over the years, India has seen notable success in the Miss Universe pageant, with Sushmita Sen making history in 1994 as the first Indian woman to be crowned, followed by Lara Dutta in 2000.
Other Indian representatives, including Dia Mirza and Neha Dhupia, have further solidified India’s presence on the global stage.
While not a part of the Miss Universe pageant, Manushi Chhillar’s victory in Miss World 2017 has also added to India’s achievements in international beauty pageants.
The final competition of the Miss Universe pageant will be broadcast on Miss Universe’s YouTube channel and X account, starting at 6:30 AM on November 19, by Indian Standard Time.
In the United States, the Telemundo channel will stream the event in Spanish, and the Roku channel will also provide streaming access.
