"I made up my mind that I will not leave him alive."
Imran Khan has revealed who he believes is responsible for the alleged attempt on his life.
The former Prime Minister was giving a speech at a rally in Gujranwala when a gunman opened fire.
In what has been called an “assassination attempt”, Khan was shot in the leg.
He was taken to hospital for treatment.
Seven people were injured, and one person was killed during the assassination attempt.
The victim who has passed away has been named Muazzam Nawaz.
The gunman was arrested, saying he shot at Imran Khan for “misleading people”.
“He (Imran) was misleading the people and I could not bear watching it so I killed him … attempted to kill him.
“I tried my best to kill him. I wanted to kill Imran Khan only and no one else.
“I thought of this as there was Azaan going on and on the other side, Imran Khan is taking out his container and making noise.
“My conscience did not approve of this.
“I decided this suddenly… I conspired against Imran Khan from the day he kicked off his long march from Lahore.
“I made up my mind that I will not leave him alive.”
When asked if he conspired with others, the shooter said:
“I have conspired this alone and no one else is involved in this.
“I came on a bike and I parked it at my uncle’s shop. He has a motorcycle showroom.”
Spokesmen of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party have commented on Khan’s behalf since the ordeal.
Despite the gunman’s ill-intention to kill Imran Khan, he believes that the attack against him was orchestrated by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the country’s Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, and a top ISI general, Maj Faisal.
Khan’s strong remarks are reported to be based on information he had received since the attack.
PTI spokesmen Asad Umar and Mian Aslam Iqbal said:
“A short while ago, Imran Khan told us to issue this statement on his behalf.
“He believes there are three people on whose behest this was done – Shehbaz Sharif, Rana Sanaullah and Maj Gen Faisal.”
“He said he was receiving information and is saying this on that basis.
“Imran Khan was shot in the leg. His CT scan has been done.”
PTI spokesmen continued by claiming that doubters of the former Prime Minister should use the incident as a means to understand that Khan is committed to the reformation of Pakistan.
“If anyone had the slightest doubt it should have been cleared today as Imran Khan was saying again and again that he, for the freedom of this nation, is ready to sacrifice his life.”
