"What better than Republic Day"
Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore 1947 has been creating ripples of excitement since its announcement in 2023.
A tentative release date for the film has been reported.
The movie stars Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi and Karan Deol.
Aamir Khan is the producer of the film.
Appearing to confirm Republic Day 2025 as the release date, a source in Bollywood Hungama stated:
“The shooting of Lahore 1947 is currently underway and the makers will wrap up the film by June 2024.
“It’s a film shot in the studio set up with massive sets of the yesteryear era being recreated.
“There is minimal VFX, as more focus is on real drama and action.
“It’s a patriotic film about a man’s love for India and what better than Republic Day for its arrival.
“Lahore 1947 will most likely be Sunny Deol’s next on the big screen after the historic success of Gadar 2.
“Aamir Khan also has a cameo appearance in the film.”
Lahore 1947 marks the first collaboration between Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan.
In October 2023, Aamir confirmed the film via the Aamir Khan Productions social media account. He wrote:
“I, and the entire team of AKP, are most excited and happy to announce our next, starring Sunny Deol, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, titled Lahore 1947.
“We look forward to collaborating with the immensely talented Sunny and one of my favourite directors Raj Santoshi.
“The journey we have embarked on promises to be most enriching.
“We seek your blessings.”
In March 2024, Rajkumar praised Aamir’s style of working as a producer.
He had said: “[Aamir] is a hands-on producer, and I am amazed by him.
“He still takes out time for everything.
“He is always available on a phone call, checking progress and inspiring the team.
“Whenever he has time, he drops on the sets and inspires and motivates everybody.
“He is a great artist and a great producer.”
Rajkumar previously directed Aamir in the cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna (1994).
Meanwhile, Sunny and Rajkumar have worked together in several blockbusters including Ghayal (1990), Damini (1993) and Ghatak: Lethal (1996).
Sunny and Aamir almost worked together in Yash Chopra’s Darr (1993).
However, things did not materialise and Aamir was ultimately replaced by Shah Rukh Khan.
Music composer AR Rahman and lyricist Javed Akhtar have been roped into the team of Lahore 1947.
With so much talent involved in the film, Lahore 1947 is undoubtedly a film that vast legions of fans are eagerly anticipating.
