"This is truly the best dream team."
Rajkumar Santoshi revealed interesting details about his latest project Lahore, 1947.
The film marks the first collaboration between Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan.
Sunny will be portraying the lead role in the film, while Aamir will produce the movie.
Rajkumar previously directed Aamir in the cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna (1994).
Meanwhile, Rajkumar and Sunny have been frequent collaborators.
They have worked together in blockbusters including Ghayal (1990), Damini (1993) and Ghatak: Lethal (1996). Sunny won awards for his performances in the former two films.
Rajkumar Santoshi asserted that Lahore, 1947 is a special film for him. He explained:
“Lahore 1947 is a very special film, emotionally attached and very important project in my career.
“Also, it’s a reunion with the most talented people.
“I worked with Aamir in Andaz Apna Apna and this time he is collaborating as a producer.
“On the other hand, with Sunny Deol, we made the most loved films like Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak.
Rajkumar went on to reveal members of the crew for Lahore, 1947.
The director confirmed the inclusion of renowned composer AR Rahman and celebrated lyricist Javed Akhtar.
He said: “For a film of this magnitude, I can’t think of anyone else than AR Rahman as a music composer.
“He is one of the top composers in the world right now.
“Javed Akhtar and I share a very good bond with each other for many years.
“Having him for this project as a lyricist is a delight.
“This is truly the best dream team and rare to come together.
“With all the positivity and full of energy, we will commence the shoot for the film very soon.”
It is also rumoured that Preity Zinta has been cast as the female lead in the film.
Furthermore, it is speculated that Aamir will have a cameo appearance.
While on Koffee With Karan 8, Sunny talked about working with Aamir for the first time.
The duo were supposed to star together in Yash Chopra’s Darr (1993), which did not end up happening.
Sunny said: “I remember, on the party [for Gadar 2], Aamir said, “I want to meet you.’
“I wondered, ‘why does he want to meet me?’
“The next day, we met and we spoke about [Lahore, 1947] and then I said yes.
“Then, I took a day or so and we all just came to the conclusion that this is the best thing to do.”
“And it was so beautiful.”
With such talent coming together onscreen and behind the camera, Lahore, 1947 promises to be an exciting film.
On the work front, Sunny Deol was last seen in the blockbuster Gadar 2 (2023).
Aamir Khan is gearing up for the release of his production Laapataa Ladies, scheduled to be released on March 1, 2024.
The Dangal star recently commenced the shooting of his next starrer, Sitaare Zameen Par.
Meanwhile, Rajkumar Santoshi helmed the comedy film Bad Boy (2023).
