"Lahore 1947 marks Sunny Deol’s next major project."
Since its announcement in 2023, Lahore 1947 has been an intriguing, highly anticipated film.
The film is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and is produced by Aamir Khan. It also stars Sunny Deol in the lead role.
This movie marks the first professional collaboration between Sunny and Aamir.
The pair were scheduled to star together in Yash Chopra’s Darr (1993), but things did not materialise, and Shah Rukh Khan replaced Aamir in that film.
Lahore 1947 is a period film which also features Preity G. Zinta, Shabana Azmi, and Karan Deol, among others.
However, despite the movie being such a curious project, little clarity was given regarding its release.
The film was originally scheduled to be released in January 2025.
However, director Rajkumar Santoshi later confirmed his plans to release the film towards the end of that year, which also did not happen.
Via their social media handles, Aamir Khan Productions officially confirmed the release date of the film.
In a statement issued on February 9, 2026, the banner said:
“Aamir Khan Productions sets August 13, 2026, during the Independence Day week, as the theatrical release date for their upcoming period drama, Lahore 1947.
“The film brings together Sunny Deol, director Rajkumar Santoshi and producer Aamir Khan for the first time.
“Starring Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Preity G. Zinta, Abhimanyu Singh, Karan Deol and Ali Fazal, the film features music by AR Rahman, lyrics by Javed Akhtar, and dialogues by Rajkumar Santoshi and Asghar Wajahat.
“Cinematography is by Santosh Sivan, editing by Shyam Salgaonkar, sound design by Resul Pookutty and production design by Subrata Chakraborty and Amit Ray.
“Lahore 1947 marks Sunny Deol’s next major project following his recent blockbuster successes.”

Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi have worked on several blockbusters, including Ghayal (1990), Damini: Lightning (1993), and Ghatak: Lethal (1996).
Rajkumar also directed Aamir Khan in Andaaz Apna Apna (1994).
Preity G. Zinta and Sunny Deol have worked together in films, including Farz (2001), The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003), and Bhaiaji Superhit (2018).
Aamir and Preity previously collaborated in Dil Chahta Hai (2001).
With so many successful combinations reforming, along with some very talented forces behind the scenes, Lahore 1947 promises to be a fabulous cinematic experience.
The film is based on Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Ni.
After Sunny’s father, Dharmendra, passed away in November 2025, Aamir revealed that he had shown the veteran actor the film before his death.
Aamir said: “I had the good fortune of showing him the film, so he had seen it.
“I was so glad, because that was one of his favourite scripts.”
Meanwhile, Sunny Deol was last seen in Border 2 (2026). He is next expected to be seen in the Netflix film Ikka with Akshaye Khanna and Dia Mirza.
The star will also be playing Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana series, as well as the lead role in the upcoming Gabru.
Aamir Khan last appeared in a cameo role in Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos (2026).
