In September 2025, the movie gossip mills went into overdrive due to Deepika Padukone.
The makers of Kalki 2898 AD (2024) announced that Deepika will not be returning for the movie’s sequel.
In their statement, they said that the film “deserves that commitment”.
Fans of the actress reacted negatively to the comment, as it appeared to suggest that Deepika lacked a strong work ethic.
Alongside Deepika, Kalki 2898 AD also starred Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Disha Patani.
However, some of Deepika’s supporters have taken a step further to defend the Om Shanti Om star.
One user on X shared a previous interview of Prabhas and Deepika.
While Deepika was expressing her view of acting in Telugu cinema, Prabhas was heard making sounds and gently interrupting her.
Sharing the clip, the user wrote: “Deepika Padukone was speaking about something very sensible here.
“But this JOKER, Prabhas, was constantly trying to talk and flirt with her (she was pregnant at that time).
“Don’t worry, Deepika, you’ll not face such issues with your next, AA22 x A6 with Allu Arjun.”
In the video, Deepika said: “As actors, you’re not really thinking.
“I think, when you emote, the language comes secondary.”
While looking at Deepika Padukone, Prabhas interrupted and said: “Yeah, the language is a problem…”
Seemingly ignoring this, Deepika continued: “Emotion is, I think, the language of cinema, right?
“It transcends borders. So, you can act in English, you can act in Telugu, you can act in Hindi.
“But I think as long as the emotion [is there], you can just say so much with your eyes without saying anything at all and be able to convey that emotion.”
Prabhas interrupted again and said: “And you can show the best with your…”
This went unnoticed by Deepika as she carried on: “The words are more like a crutch.
“No, I didn’t feel like, ‘Oh, I’m now working in Telugu cinema’.
“It didn’t feel overwhelming in that sense.”
Throughout Deepika’s speech, Prabhas continued to make subtle moans.

Fans lashed out at Prabhas under the video.
One person commented: “Yes, because he will kiss directly on the cheek in a public event.”
Another user said: “Well, there’s clearly friction there. Looks like the shoot wasn’t a very pleasant experience.”
However, other people dismissed the idea that Prabhas was flirting, instead blaming Deepika.
One wrote: “This is blind hatred. If you have watched the interview, all of them are asking Prabhas to speak more.
“Hate him for valid reasons, but this is not the way.”
Another user declared: “Emotions, my foot! She literally has the same emotions in all [her] movies.
“She has stopped growing as an actress after she became a star.”
The full statement by the Kalki makers read:
“This is to officially announce that Deepika Padukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of Kalki 2898 AD.
“After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways.
“Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership.
“And a film like Kalki 2898 AD deserves that commitment and much more.”
Deepika was also recently replaced by Triptii Dimri in Sandeep Reddy Vanga‘s upcoming film, Spirit.
On the work front, Deepika will next reunite with director Siddharth Anand and her frequent co-star Shah Rukh Khan in King.
