"I would like to dedicate my future to this country"

Given the dearth of women singers in the industry, Pakistan could really use some fresh talent.

Thankfully, our renowned actresses and models have been quick to spot this gap in the market and cash in on it. From Ayyan to Mathira and now Veena Malik, Pakistan’s infamous sirens appear to have a penchant for singing.

But while the former two chose to stick to commercial pop using their sexual prowess to their advantage, Veena – keeping in line with her spiritual makeover – has hopped on the patriotic bandwagon.

Her comeback single ‘Aye Dushman-e-Watan’ is a tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces.

‘Aye Dushman-e-Watan’ ~ A Patriotic Anthem

The video for the song/anthem ‘Aye Dushman-e-Watan’ was released on 10th April 2017 at a press conference held in Karachi.

It sees Veena don a white shalwar kameez paired with a sheer, oversized cape in place of a dupatta channelling a ‘part Jadoo, part DS Kate Fleming in her forensic suit’ look.

With power, authority and spirit, Veena warns the country’s enemies of its strong and courageous armed forces as footage of military operations plays in the background. Veena sure appears passionate about the ongoing military operation ‘Radd-ul-Fasad’ initiated by the newly-appointed army chief.

Not much can be said about Veena’s vocal skills but if you are into ‘qaumi taranas’, it may just grow on you with that high-powered sound of the electric guitar playing at intervals.

Interestingly, the lyrics of ‘Aye Dushman-e-Watan’ have been penned down by a retired lieutenant colonel Kazim Hussain Shah who is a recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and enjoys poetry.

While speaking to the press, Veena said she is glad to have contributed in some form to the country:

“As an actor, as an entertainer if I can express my love for the country through a tribute, it won’t be enough,” she said.

“This is a small effort from my part that I’ve made this anthem and it’s my wish that in the coming years, I can completely pay back this country.”

“All my work whether it’s in showbiz, or through this anthem, I would like to dedicate my future to this country.”

After a long hiatus from the limelight, Veena recently became media’s golden nugget when the news of her separation hit the airwaves.

The actress, too, chimed in all the discussion taking matters to Muslim clerics and anchors on live television.

One of the reasons cited for the differences between the couple was Veena’s decision to return to showbiz. Clearly, Veena did not change her mind.

While there is no recent update on her personal life, here is the video for her comeback single:
