Pakistani actress Veena Malik – one of the most controversial celebrities of her time – has the rumour mills rolling once again.
It has been revealed that Veena filed a plea at the Lahore family court to dissolve her 3-year-long marriage with husband Asad Khattak, back in January. However, in a recent turn of events, Veena has agreed to settle matters and give Asad another chance.
Veena Malik had accused her husband of abusing and disrespecting her. However, reports suggest that differences between the couple escalated when Veena decided to return to showbiz:
“They started fighting a lot when she began participating in the entertainment industry again,” a source, close to Asad Khattak, told Pakistani English daily The Express Tribune.
Since Asad failed to reply to the court’s notice, the court ruled in favour of Veena Malik. Asad, on the other hand, does not want to end his marriage with Veena. Earlier in March 2017, he took to Twitter to express his love for his wife:
“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person. I LOVE U my world.”
And it seems Asad’s determination may have resulted in success. The couple was invited on ARY’s show 11th Hour alongside Muslim cleric Maulana Tariq Jameel in an attempt to facilitate reconciliation between the couple.
Asad used the opportunity to ask forgiveness. Veena Malik, however, said that she won’t forgive him because of two reasons: “First, that he [Khattak] beat me; second, that he disrespected me… not once, but repeatedly.”
Later, on Maulana Tariq Jameel’s insistence, Veena agreed to give her husband a second chance. But on the condition that she is given a written guarantee that Asad will not give her a reason to complain in future. Jameel supported Veena’s decision to separate. But later said that since Asad is asking for forgiveness on live television, he should be given another chance.
Veena Malik is a Pakistani actress who has been part of a handful of forgettable Bollywood films and also made an appearance on Bigg Boss season 4.
She was rumoured to have an affair with Bollywood actor Ashmit Patel and was embroiled in a controversy for posing nude on the cover of a magazine. Soon after her marriage, she said she had turned over a new leaf and was now a devout Muslim.
Veena Malik tied the knot with Asad Khattak in December 2013. The couple has two kids together – Abram and Amal.
