The shocking incident happened in the Haji Shah Sharif area of Kasur, Punjab.
The victim was identified as Muhammad Saleem, a father of three. He was an officer who used to patrol on Khara Road.
Police have said that Muhammad was on his way home from DHQ Hospital with his wife when two unidentified men on a motorbike signalled the couple to stop.
The men told the wife to stand on the pavement. The men then opened fire at her husband before fleeing the scene.
The incident was reported and police quickly arrived at the scene. Muhammad died at the scene and his body was transported to the hospital for a post-mortem.
Family members were informed of the shooting and rushed to the hospital.
However, things became tense when family members began aerial firing inside the hospital in anger. This caused panic among patients and hospital staff.
Assistant Medical Superintendent Dr Fayyaz said the Pakistani policeman’s family members opened fire inside the hospital and harassed doctors and paramedics.
He said that a police case will be registered against them.
Meanwhile, police are working to identify the assailants who remain on the run.
In another case of a Pakistani policeman being killed, Officer Asif Ali was murdered in an honour killing incident on March 10, 2019.
He was killed by the family of a woman he was friends with. The incident took place in Batapur, Lahore, Pakistan.
It was reported that the woman’s family may have killed him as they thought Asif was romantically associated with her.
Officer Ali served in the Special Protection Unit (SPU), a force set up to ensure the safety of foreign people in the city.
According to the police, he had gone to meet his friend who lived in a nearby village on Sunday, March 10, 2019.
The woman’s family were there and as they saw Asif meet her, they became extremely angry.
They shot at him. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died instantly.
In a bid to get rid of the evidence, the suspects hid Asif’s body under a bed and fled the crime scene.
As they left, they called the police and told them that a robbery was committed at their house.
A police team led by Superintendent Shahbaz Elahi reached the spot and found Asif’s body.
Officers collected forensic evidence from the house. They also recorded statements from witnesses.
Asif’s brother-in-law filed a complaint against the suspects after he became suspicious about their involvement. Police investigated the matter further.
Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR against the woman, her father and her brother.
