A US Indian man was shot dead in front of his wife in a suspected road rage incident.

Indianapolis Police Department Officer Amanda Hibschman said officers responded to a report of a person shot just after 8 pm on July 16, 2024, at an intersection on the city’s southeast side.

Arriving officers said they found a man on the ground with at least one gunshot wound.

The victim was identified as 29-year-old Gavin Dasaur.

His widow Viviana ZaMora said: “I held him as he bled out and I was waiting for the ambulance.”

It was reported that the couple were on their way home when he was shot dead by the suspect after an argument.

The couple got married on June 29, just over two weeks before his death.

It was not immediately known where Gavin and Viviana lived or what caused the fight to break out.

Emergency services transported Gavin to a hospital where he died.

Viviana said: “We were so in love and had many plans for the future.

“Like starting a family and enjoying our honeymoon, and travelling all over the world.

“He was a hardworking man that always went out of his way to help anyone and wanted to give the world to me and his family.

“He did not deserve to die this way. It’s such a tragedy that my husband was murdered in cold blood.”

The suspected shooter was detained at the scene.

A police spokesperson said: “Upon further investigation and after consultation with Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, that individual was released.”

It was indicated that the shooter may have acted in self-defence.

Footage on social media shows a man (Gavin Dasaur) wearing a hat, a green shirt and cargo shorts, approaching a white Chevrolet pickup truck.

Gavin was holding what appeared to be a pistol.

He appears irate and as he walks towards the pickup truck, Gavin punches the truck’s door with the gun.

As he yells at the pickup driver, Gavin switches the gun to his left hand while simultaneously raising his right hand to the truck’s window.

The pickup driver responds by firing three shots at Gavin, causing him to immediately fall to the ground.

During the suspected road rage incident, the shooter never exited his vehicle.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Marion County Coroner’s Office which will determine Gavin Dasaur’s manner and cause of death.

The case remained active and under investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to contact Indianapolis police.
