Valentine's Day ~ Makeup Inspired by Bollywood

Golden highlighters are perfect for a sun-kissed look.

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, DESIblitz reveals everything there is to know about the path to being a makeup guru. If only for the night!

It is known that February 14th is a little taboo within the Asian community. It’s not as widely celebrated. But in recent years, its popularity is rocketing.

Even Indian stars are making the most of this day of love and romance. Ever seen Ghar-Ek Mandir? Gautami Gadgil and Ram Kapoor married on Valentine’s Day in 2004 after years of working together on set.

Another Bollywood couple some may not have known tied the knot was the Kehta Hai Dil Jee Le Zara star Ruslaan Mumtaz and Nirali Mehta. They married on the most romantic day of the year more recently in 2014.

So, how can you create a classic makeup look for Valentine’s Day inspired by Bollywood stars? DESIblitz presents some great tips on achieving the perfect romantic look.

Eye Spy a Burning Romance

Bollywood legend Madhuri Dixit has always had a soft glam look when it comes to her eye makeup.

For a lighter look, use peach, pink, gold and cream colours. Burgundy is always good as a crease shade before packing a lighter eyeshadow onto the lid.

Save money and invest in a palette full of colours to mix-and-match.

To be as simple as possible, ditch dark eyeliner altogether. Or to frame the eyes, opt for a dark brown kohl eyeliner instead.

For a dramatic, smouldering look, take a leaf out of the mesmerising Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s book and create a cat-eye with a thick line of eyeliner.

Eyeshadows to complete the look should be blacks, chocolate and burnt orange. To add a pop of colour, go for blues, a hot pink or even mustard.

DESIblitz recommends the Too Faced palettes for a sultry stare.

If you’re a bit indecisive or want to experiment more, invest in a larger eye shadow palette and build the perfect colour concoction on the day.

Who’s That Glowing Goddess?

Highlighting is the new ‘in’ thing and make-up artists coat themselves in the stuff. Then again, so would we.

Golden highlighters are perfect for a sun-kissed look. Or opt for a strobing liquid for a long-lasting wear. Golden colours, with a touch of pink, are perfect for illuminating Asian skin.

For an extra glow, highlight with a silver tone to make skin really shine. It’ll blind everyone in the room!

Kits come prepared with different varieties of colour and shades to choose from, depending on how Valentine’s Day will be celebrated this year.

DESIblitz tip: Spritz a brush with a setting spray or some water to really bring out the colour.

Pucker Up for Valentine’s Day!

Valentine-Day-Lipstick-Pucker-4

The most conventional choice for lips on Valentine’s Day is, of course, red.

Take to the high-end and treat yourself to a Christian Louboutin Rouge! If not, stick to the trusted MAC’s infamous Ruby Woo.

Remember to line your lips before applying red lipstick. Bear in mind it will leave a red shadow on your partner’s face after all those kisses!

The Queen of pink lipsticks has to be Priyanka Chopra. Get her ultra-feminine look with a bold, matte lipstick.

Or for an oozing wet-look lip, slide on a pink gloss!

For those girls who are more into natural looks – try a nude lip. Anushka Sharma stuns in natural looks. Get her killer smile with a matte nude lipstick like Poise by Dose of Colours.

For a shade that will keep going through the night, go for a long-lasting marker or 24-hour stay lipstick. Shop here for a colour that won’t fade away.

Makeup application is not easy for everyone. For some extra handy tips, watch a Valentine’s Day tutorial here:

Last, but not least, don’t forget to lock makeup with a setting spray!

These looks will be perfect for Valentine’s Day. By using the winning combination of eyeshadow, highlight and lipstick, Asian girls can create a look that will rival the famous Bollywood looks.
