Don’t wait for Cupid; put matters into your own hands!

Valentine’s Day is becoming more popular, especially in Western culture. And one of the big things on every Desi girl’s mind is their Valentine’s Day outfit!

The most romantic day of the year is relatively new to India. Love and marriage are components which are shared by a whole family. Thus, couples may not be openly affectionate in public.

Then again, we did create the Kama Sutra!

With the new era in Asian fashion being fusion and the modern woman, why not transport those features into a perfect Valentine’s Day outfit?

Going out with a crush, partner or just the girls? Don’t worry, we have some suggestions to keep everyone looking gorgeous in their Valentine’s Day outfit.

Don’t wait for Cupid; put matters into your own hands!

A Night on the Town

Planning to spend the evening out? Why not channel the same angelic look as Kanika Kapoor in Manish Malhotra at the IWC Watches Gala?

Get the look by pairing a white lace maxi skirt with a white cropped top. It may resemble a lehenga but, co-ords are not getting any less fashionable. Why not try skirts from Missguided?

To add a pop of colour, go for a feminine pink or blush toned skirt to compliment your skin tone. To avoid showing too much skin, go for a maxi. But for those feeling a bit risky, go ahead and show those legs off.

Also, pleated skirts are making a big comeback on the high street. Jump on the bandwagon and don one on for Valentine’s to steal the spotlight. Boohoo have a beautiful range.

For a sexier Valentine’s Day outfit, why not slip into a slip dress? They too have hit the shelves as a fun piece for a night out and show a little more skin. Find one here from New Look.

The beautiful Neelam Gill was recently spotted in London in a satin slip, paired with a faux fur jacket. The chic evening wear will make any Desi girl the apple of their partner’s eye.

If the weather is too much and you want to keep something to the imagination, throw on a mesh dress for a cheeky bit of skin.

Hot off the runway with many designers, mesh detailing is increasingly popular for Asian fashion. Check out this bodycon dress from ASOS.

A Romantic Night In

Planning to spend the night at home on February 14th? Go a little risqué! Why wear proper clothes when you can strut around in something a ‘little less comfortable’ and a lot more revealing?

Victoria’s Secret, along with many other retailers, have a stunning range of nightwear and lingerie to tease your partner.

It can be your little secret. Come on, it’s Valentine’s Day!

Keep it ethnic with a simple tunic dress. Or to spice it up a bit, invest in an embroidered one like some of the famous Bollywood actresses. Sonam Kapoor was recently snapped in Geneva in a gorgeous floral embroidered gown.

ASOS have some pretty tunics here. Wear it either alone or with a pair of leggings. Save money by using a kameez from a suit you already own!

Add a real Desi touch to the perfect Valentine’s Day outfit with some statement accessories!

Head pieces have been appropriated from the Asian culture and taken under Western designer’s wings.

Swap tikka jewellery for a jewelled hair crown and turn some heads wherever you’re celebrating. Whether Desi girls have a slicked back hairdo or big lioness hair, hair crowns are the perfect finish. Not to mention they can be whipped out for the next family wedding.

Hand chains, or haath phools, have also been appropriated from Eastern fashionistas. Find some on the high-street shops such as Forever 21.

A statement bridal piece has elevated from being seen on rare occasions to being wearable in everyday fashion. Bipasha Basu rocked a string pearl one on her wedding day.

Embellishments won’t glisten as much as their owners. But they can try. A bedazzled bag is key for a simple Valentine’s Day outfit or a loud-and-proud statement.

Re-use an Indian bag or purchase a shining bag.

Instead of a chuni, keep warm with a shawl or skinny scarf. Shop them online or take a trip to the local Indian shops and pick up some fabric to craft a unique style to match the outfit.

With so many choices, Asian girls can create their own unique, stylish look. These tips and tricks can help girls look their best this Valentine’s Day, with some Desi twists to stand out.
