"It took them time to get over that scene."
Triptii Dimri admitted her parents were “taken aback” by her intimate scene in Animal.
The talked-about scene in Animal features Triptii and Ranbir Kapoor sharing a passionate kiss before getting intimate.
Triptii is seen partially nude and it led to criticism.
Responding to the criticism, she said:
“This scene is being criticised a lot. This troubled me initially because I am a person who has rarely faced criticism. I was surprised. But I sat quietly and thought about it.
“The day I decided to become an actor, no one forced me to become an actor.
“I wanted to do it because I found it exciting. I did not do anything wrong in the film.
“As I started acting, the character I was playing became a part of the healing in a way. I started enjoying it. I started finding happiness in every challenge and thing that came my way.”
Triptii has now revealed that her parents told her that she “shouldn’t have done it”.
Speaking about her parents’ reaction to the scene, Triptii said:
“My parents got a little taken aback. (They said) ‘We have never seen something like this in films and you have done it’.
“It took them time to get over that scene. They were very sweet to me though.
“They were like, ‘You shouldn’t have done that… but it’s okay. As parents, we will obviously feel this’.”
She told her parents that it was her responsibility as an actress to make the scene as honest as possible.
Triptii elaborated: “I told them I am not doing anything wrong.
“It’s my job and as long as I am comfortable and safe, I don’t see any problem in that.
“I am an actor and I have to be 100 per cent honest with the character that I play and I did that.”
Recalling the on-set atmosphere while filming the scene, Triptii Dimri explained that director Sandeep Reddy Vanga constantly made sure she was comfortable.
She said: “While signing the project, Sandeep told me that there’s a scene and I want to shoot it this way, but I will make it look aesthetically amazing.
“I want to create a Beauty and the Beast kind of image.
“And this is what I have. I leave it up to you, whether you’re comfortable or not comfortable, you let me know, we’ll work around it is what he told me.
“So, when I saw the references, I was like ‘wow, it’s an important moment between the two characters’. That made me comfortable.”
Triptii also stated that the rape scene she filmed for the 2020 Netflix film Bulbbul was “more challenging”.
Triptii elaborated: “I think the rape scenes that I did in Bulbbul were more challenging to me as a person because you are just giving up, and giving up is more difficult than finding the courage to do something.
“If I can overcome that, then I think this was nothing in comparison to that scene in Bulbbul.”
