"This must be due to something personal"
TikTok star Siya Kakkar, aged 16, took her own life on June 24, 2020, after being subjected to “threats”.
Siya, who has over one million followers on TikTok thanks to her dance routines, was found dead at her home in Delhi.
According to reports, she had posted a video of herself on top of a building performing a dance routine hours before she committed suicide. She was smiling in the clip.
Siya’s manager Arjun Sarin broke the sad news. He said that he had spoken to the social media star on the day of her death.
Arjun did not suspect anything was wrong as she appeared to be doing well.
He said: “This must be due to something personal… work-wise she was doing well.
“I had a word with her last night for a new project and she sounded normal.
“Me and my company Fame Experts manage lots of artists and Siya was a bright talent. I am heading to her home in Preet Vihar.”
While she was best known for her dance routines on TikTok, Siya also had over 100,000 followers on Instagram.
Friends and those who worked with Siya expressed their sorrow over her untimely death.
Bollywood photographer Viral Bhayani took to Instagram and wrote:
“Sad news 16-year-old sweet TikToker Siya Kakkar died by suicide.
“Before publishing this I spoke to her talent management agency head Arjun Sarin who just spoke to her last night for a song collaboration and he says she was in a good mood and perfectly alright.
“Even he has no clue what went wrong that she had to go this way.
“You go through her videos and you can she was so good in her content, it’s really sad that she chose this path.”
“If you are feeling depressed please don’t do this.”
While Arjun did not know why Siya took her own life, her family have claimed that the teenager had been receiving “threats” on the internet.
They have demanded a detailed police investigation, however, officers said they were unable to confirm the reason at the current stage.
Delhi Police have confirmed that Siya committed suicide, saying:
“Siya died by suicide at her residence in New Delhi at around 9 pm on June 25. She lived with her family.
“Her family is in shock and has requested privacy. No suicide note has been recovered.”
Her phone has been seized but they are yet to unlock it. The police will also question those close to Siya.
