"this grand wedding could mark Taylor’s first-ever performance"
It could be great news for Taylor Swift fans in India as it is rumoured that she might be making her debut performance in the country.
According to reports, the global music icon has been approached to perform during the pre-wedding celebrations of Jeet Adani, son of billionaire businessman Gautam Adani, and Diva Shah.
A source has said Taylor’s team is discussing a performance at the pre-wedding party.
The source claimed: “Yes, this is true. Taylor Swift’s team is in talks with the Adanis to perform at one of the pre-wedding festivities of Jeet Adani and Diva Shah.
“While her presence is yet to be confirmed, negotiations are underway, and if finalised, this grand wedding could mark Taylor’s first-ever performance in India.”
Taylor Swift has a large following in India and she knows it.
While promoting her album 1989 in 2014, Taylor talked about her Indian fans.
She also revealed her Bollywood interest:
“Indian cinema has a lot of music and dance, which excites me.
“I think Indians share a big passion for song and dance in movies, which I love. It’s a great way to connect with the audience.”
Jeet Adani and Diva Shah got engaged in March 2023, having a simple engagement ceremony in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Taylor Swift is coming off the success of her Eras Tour.
She performed across continents but surprisingly, the tour skipped India, only visiting Singapore and Japan in Asia.
If the rumours come to fruition, the wedding will go down in history as not just a grand affair but also as the event that brought Taylor Swift to India for the first time.
It will also add Taylor to the growing list of global music stars performing in India.
The likes of Dua Lipa, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran have performed in the country and according to Dr Sourindra Banerjee, from Leeds University Business School, India’s 1.4 billion population – and their age – is a big draw.
She said: “You have a large portion of the world, of youth, living in India.
“So if I were in the music business that would be the place I would target, to reap the benefits of the demographic.”
The rise of K-pop in India has also shown Western artists the potential of India to find new fans.
