Talwiinder has begun the rollout for his highly anticipated EP, Paiinted Feeliings, with the release of his atmospheric new single, ‘Assay Passay’.
The Punjabi artist had teased the project through cryptic hints and clues appearing across cities, prompting his dedicated community, known as the ‘Miisfiits’, to decode the messages.
‘Assay Passay’ explores the people and spaces around us and the subtle ways they can shape who we become. The song considers how those influences can affect the way we speak, behave, think and see ourselves.
The Punjabi phrase ‘Assay Passay’ refers to one’s surroundings.
Its meaning goes beyond physical spaces to the people we spend time with and the gradual impact they can have on our identity.
When it comes to the song, Talwiinder revealed the creation came unexpectedly during a freestyle session at a friend’s house.
He said: “We made ‘Assay Passay’ during a freestyle session at a friend’s house on a rainy day.
“It wasn’t planned at all. As we kept working on it, this thought about how much the people around us can change us just stayed with me.”
He said the idea also contributed to the wider emotional direction of Paiinted Feeliings, which explores feelings and experiences that can be difficult to articulate.
The artist added: “Sometimes you don’t even notice that you’re becoming a different version of yourself.
“I think we all experience emotions that are difficult to explain or put into words, and Paiinted Feeliings came from that space for me, with each song capturing a different feeling, memory or moment.”
Written, composed and performed by Talwiinder, ‘Assay Passay’ is produced by Dropped Out and mixed and mastered by NDS.
The track builds on Talwiinder’s signature ambient-pop sound, through which he transforms intimate emotions and experiences into immersive musical landscapes.
‘Assay Passay’ sets the tone for Paiinted Feeliings, with the EP exploring feelings, memories and moments that can often remain unspoken.
The song also raises a question about the extent to which our identities are shaped by the world around us.
