"I am not going to change because of that."
Sunny Deol has broken his silence about a video which went viral.
The video depicted the Gadar 2 (2023) star shouting at a fan who approached him at an airport and asked him for a photo.
In the video, Sunny walked with his entourage through the terminal. A fan approached him with his phone. Sunny reluctantly allowed the fan to take the photo.
However, when the fan appeared to be taking too long, the actor snapped and yelled:
“Take the picture!”
The fan seemed to be unperturbed and took the picture.
The video received polarising reactions. Some spoke out against the star. They pointed out that actors who are not star kids don’t react angrily to fans. One person remarked:
“It’s always the star kids, who have grown up with fame and privilege who take this love for granted.
“Be it SRK or Amitabh Bachchan. Always grateful.”
On the other hand, some defended the star. Queen (2013) actress Kangana Ranaut came to Sunny’s defence and said:
“Any one such incidence in isolation can never be an indication of one’s intentions or behaviour, and selfie culture is horrible.
“People come very close to us we get subjected to all kinds of virals and viruses.
“Love has many languages selfies and hugs are not the only ones.”
Sunny Deol has now broken his silence on the matter, insisting that he did not do anything wrong.
He explained: “Sometimes what happens is that I am constantly running around.
“I also got a catch in my back recently, but still, I am at it and I have to go along with it.
“So many times it has happened that I am in pain but still have to keep moving. Obviously, fans love you, and you share that with them.
“A lot of times, even when it (selfie) is done, they don’t move away.”
“So at that time, I am not thinking if someone is recording me, and what I’m thinking is, ‘Let me carry on. Please try and understand’.
“There is an emotional connection with fans.
“Whoever wants to edit and present it like that does it, and those who are doing it are having fun, so let them have fun.
“I am not going to change because of that. I have not done something wrong.”
Gadar 2 was released on August 11, 2023. It saw Sunny reprise his iconic role of Tara Singh.
It has grossed over Rs. 615 Crore (£58 million) and is currently the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2023.
