"Don't talk no bloody nonsense. You bloody shut up. B***h!"
Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar has hit headlines for the wrong reasons after he verbally abused an activist on live TV.
The popular TV writer and director was on a local TV channel on March 3, 2020, where the topic of discussion was the Aurat March.
He was on the show alongside activist Marvi Sirmed to share their thoughts about the matter.
Qamar expressed his disdain towards the type of slogans that are raised during the yearly protest.
In response to a question, Qamar said:
“When the court has denied the usage of slogans like ‘Mera jism, meri marzi’ (My body, my choice), then it hurts me deeply when figures like Marvi Sirmed use these slogans.”
However, Sirmed began repeating the slogan and stating that Qamar’s opinion would become a problem.
This led to tempers flaring and Qamar launched a foul-mouthed tirade at the woman. He told her not to interrupt and also directed inappropriate comments towards Sirmed.
He told her: “What’s in your body? Who the hell are you, go look at your body and face, no one even wants to spit on it.
“Don’t talk in the middle, don’t talk in between the lines. What is your body, bibi?
“Don’t talk no bloody nonsense. You bloody shut up. B***h!”
Meanwhile, the television host tried to calm the situation down.
At the same time, Sirmed continues repeating “mera jism, meri marzi” (my body, my choice).
Qamar becomes even more aggressive, calling her “vile” and a “disrespectful woman”.
Sirmed later took to Twitter, stating that his comments would lead to consequences in other societies. She also shared the video of the incident.

If such piece of crap was a playwright in a civilized media industry, he would have been boycotted and would be reduced to ashes. But this is our beloved Islamic Republic. The misogynist abuser won't have to face any consequences. He'd be welcomed by every media house. https://t.co/2AVOe15keR

The video was viewed over 350,000 times and it has led to a debate.
Some have supported Qamar’s comments while others are rallying to get him banned from TV.
One person responded:
“You said it yourself – ‘civilised’ -it won’t happen in civilised cultures we have just gone downhill and to the dogs.”
Another told Sirmed: “You got what you deserved.”
Famous actress Mahira Khan posted:
“I am shocked at what I have just heard and seen!! Sick to the core.
“This same man who abused a woman on TV is revered and given project after project because of what? We are as much to blame if not more for perpetuating this thinking!”
She added: “I personally think it’s imperative that those that stand with the idea of standing up for your rights should write and speak with clarity.
“A lot gets lost when we try to match jahaaalat with jahaalat, abuse with abuse. There MUST be a difference.”
A petition has even been made, calling for Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar to be boycotted.
