Many supporters expressed disappointment.
Pakistani cricketer Sidra Amin has been officially reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
The breach took place during the match against India in Colombo.
The right-handed opener, who was Pakistan’s standout performer with a brilliant 81-run knock, faced disciplinary action after displaying frustration following her dismissal.
The incident took place in the 40th over of Pakistan’s innings, when Sidra struck her bat forcefully on the pitch moments after being deemed out.
According to the ICC statement, the act was deemed a violation of Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct.
The article pertains to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during an international match.”
Sidra, who also made history by becoming the first Pakistani woman to hit a six against India in a One Day International, accepted the charge without contesting it.
The matter was handled by match referee Shandré Fritz from the Emirates ICC International Panel, who imposed the minimum penalty after Sidra admitted her mistake.
The official reprimand means that one demerit point has been added to Sidra’s disciplinary record, marking her first offence within a 24-month period.
As per ICC regulations, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum sanction of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of up to 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
On-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Nimali Perera, along with third umpire Kerrin Klaaste and fourth umpire Kim Cotton, were the officials who reported the offence.
Although the reprimand did not overshadow Sidra’s fine batting effort, her reaction sparked debate among fans about professionalism and emotion in competitive sports.
Sidra’s innings of 81 runs off 106 balls was the only significant resistance in Pakistan’s batting lineup as the team was dismissed for 159 runs.
Chasing 248, Pakistan failed despite a promising start, eventually succumbing to an 88-run defeat.
The loss marked Pakistan’s second consecutive defeat in the tournament, leaving them under pressure as they prepare to face Australia next.
Despite the setback, Sidra’s performance was widely praised by commentators and fans.
They called her innings one of the finest in recent Pakistan-India encounters.
Many supporters expressed disappointment that such a passionate display led to disciplinary action.
They argued that Sidra Amin’s reaction stemmed from sheer competitive frustration rather than disrespect.
