Srha Asghar filed an FIR against a man, accusing him of sexually harassing her outside her Karachi home.
According to the complaint, Srha had gone to the market to run some errands on August 1, 2023.
It is then alleged that a man followed her home.
Srha said: “This unknown man started following me, catcalling and came to my doorstep.”
She then claimed that he tried to touch her inappropriately, resulting in her clothes being torn.
She explained in her police report that she rang her doorbell and gained the attention of her husband Umar who came to her rescue.
He was then involved in a tussle with the accused.
Srha Asghar took shelter in her house and after hearing the commotion, her neighbours came out to offer support to Umar in detaining the accused whilst the police were alerted.
On behalf of his wife, Umar filed a case under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), and 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint).
The accused was identified as Asim.
Since news of Srha’s ordeal became public knowledge, she has been contacted by media outlets for an interview, and she took to Instagram to slam the constant requests.
She said: “I want every media person to stop messaging me about the incident.
“Shame on them for calling me and my husband continuously for an interview for your ratings!
“And shame on the news channel who attached all the personal info with the incident! We are safe Alhamdulillah!”
Despite the FIR, it has been reported that Asim is set to be released on bail. In addition, the case against him may also be thrown out due to the non-cooperation of the complainant.
However, Sharea Faisal Investigation Department in charge, Inspector Javed Babar, said that his department is preparing to file a case challan against the suspect.
When Asim appeared in court, he denied the allegations.
Inspector Babar said:
“When the female judge summoned the alleged victim, she did not come to the court.”
“Even the clothes torn during the incident or eyewitnesses of the incident requested by the police and the court were not produced.”
Police added that no lawyer on behalf of Srha appeared in court.
Srha has been married to Umar since December 2020 and they have a son named Ehaan.
