“I want to continue learning and doing better work."

Shommo Joyti has announced a year-long break from acting, just as his performance in Utshob continues to draw praise at home and abroad.

The film, released during Eid, is currently running to packed cinemas in Australia, where Joyti is attending screenings and meeting audiences.

In a recent interview, Joyti shared his decision to step back.

He said: “After Utshob, I’ve received many film offers. I’ve politely declined all of them.

“This film has made a mark. I want this love to stay. I’m stepping back from acting for one year.”

He emphasised that this is not a farewell: “I want to continue learning and doing better work. But for now, I’m taking a break.

“People here in Australia are struggling to get tickets. That level of interest is something I never imagined.”

He noted that the film’s resonance has extended beyond borders, and the audience’s response has made the journey deeply meaningful for him.

Back in Bangladesh, Utshob has also been warmly embraced, with viewers commending its emotional depth and storytelling.

Joyti admitted that he didn’t expect to be singled out among a cast filled with big names.

He said: “I assumed the focus would be on the more prominent actors. I never thought I’d be mentioned separately.”

The film stars Sadia Ayman opposite Joyti, and their pairing has received praise for its sincerity.

He revealed: “Sadia and I began our acting careers around the same time. She’s an incredible actor and a wonderful friend.”

One of the more personal moments Joyti recalled was meeting a fan in Bangladesh.

The fan said that his character’s story reminded him of visiting his late wife.

Moved by the memory, Joyti recalled: “He held my hand and told me he used to ride his motorbike to meet her, just like I did in the film.

“It was a moment I’ll never forget.”

Joyti also made time to visit veteran actor Zahid Hasan during his recent illness.

The two had acted together in Utshob, and Joyti explained that he felt compelled to check on his colleague.

He even accompanied him to a screening once he had recovered.

Coming from a family steeped in the performing arts, Joyti is no stranger to the spotlight.

His mother, Shahnaz Khushi, is a noted TV actor, and his father, Brindaban Das, is a celebrated playwright. His brother, Dibya Joyti, is also an actor.

He said: “It’s a beautiful thing that we’re all part of this world, even though we never planned it.”

With Utshob leaving a lasting impression, Shommo Joyti now steps away from the spotlight, taking a year-long break before his next chapter begins.
