"But I feel that I want to take a break"

Aamir Khan has said it is time that he took a break from acting, potentially lasting “a year and a half”.

During a media interaction, Aamir opened up about his upcoming project Champions, which he is producing.

He said that he was supposed to star in the film. But he will now be producing the film only.

Aamir also said that he wants to take a break from acting for a while.

He said: “When I am doing a film as an actor, I get so lost in that that nothing else happens in my life.

“I was supposed to do a film after Laal Singh Chaddha called Champions.

“It’s a wonderful script, a beautiful story, and it’s a very heartwarming and lovely film.

“But I feel that I want to take a break, be with my family, with my mom, my kids.”

He went on to say that this is the first time that he is taking a break from acting in his 35-year career.

Aamir continued: “I feel I have been working for 35 years and I have single-mindedly been focused on my work.

“I feel that it’s not fair to people who are close to me.

“This is the time I feel I have to take some time off to be with them and actually experience life in a different way.

“I am looking forward to the next year, year-and-a-half in which I am not working as an actor.”

Reflecting on his absence during his children’s upbringing, Aamir suggested:

“My daughter is now 23. I am sure she must have missed my presence in her life when she was younger.

“She had her own anxieties, fears, dreams, and hopes.

“I wasn’t there for her, I know this now. I didn’t know her dreams and fears and hopes, but I knew the fears and dreams and hopes of my directors.”

Preparations for Champions were to be made following the release of Laal Singh Chaddha.

However, the film opened to mixed reviews and poor box office collections.

Laal Singh Chaddha was a victim of the Bollywood boycott trend after some social media users dug out segments from an interview Aamir Khan conducted in 2015.

He said that his then-wife Kiran Rao had suggested they leave India because of “growing intolerance” in the country.

Champions will be co-produced by Aamir Khan Productions along with Sony Pictures International Productions, India and 200NotOut Productions.

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan surprised his fans with a cameo appearance in Revathy’s Salaam Venky trailer, starring Kajol.
