Comedian Shazia Mirza is among the new batch of contestants joining the 2023 series of BBC One’s Celebrity MasterChef.

The 47-year-old Birmingham native is best known for her stand-up comedy, which is said to push barriers. As a comedian, Shazia is often referred to as “brave”.

Shazia is also known for her articles in The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian, the latter of which she was a columnist for between 2008 and 2010.

In the past, she has written columns for The New Statesman and Dawn newspaper.

Shazia joins 19 others as they battle for the coveted Celebrity MasterChef 2023 trophy.

Comedy legends, award-winning musicians, presenters, entertainers and stars of screen and stage will be showing off their cooking skills.

This includes the likes of professional dancer Dianne Buswell, actor James Buckley and Black Eyed Peas star Apl.de.Ap.

Over six weeks, John Torode and Gregg Wallace will put them through various challenges to discover who has the culinary skill to go all the way.

There will be four heat weeks that will concentrate on testing the celebrities’ abilities and whittling them down as the competition progresses.

The first, 60-minute episode of each heat week sees five new faces tackle the infamous Under The Cloche challenge.

They are then thrown straight into the deep end to create their two-course dinner party dishes in a bid to impress the judges.

Returning challenges include Dinner Party Dish and Nostalgia Dish.

A new addition for 2023 that is sure to put the contestants through their pace is the Celebrity Food Truck challenge.

The top eight celebrities will be sent through to the semi and finals to face the Chef’s Table and the new Hunter Gather Cook challenges.

Katie Attwood, MasterChef Series Editor, says:

“This series is a total treat for Celebrity MasterChef fans – John and Gregg are on sizzling form and the creative dishes that the celebrities deliver need to be seen to be believed.

“Expect everything and more!”

Sarah Clay, Commissioning Editor for the BBC, added:

“It’s 2023 and Celebrity MasterChef is back with new challenges, new faces but the familiar humour and expertise of our esteemed judges, John and Gregg.

“The series goes from strength to strength and this one doesn’t disappoint.”

Shazia hopes to go all the way and follow in the footsteps of Kimberly Wyatt, Phil Vickery and Lisa Snowdon, who won the 2022 series.
